Spotguide Sierre-Sion

The region around Sion and Sierre has some of the greatest singletrail classics to offer: Brazilian, Plain Morte, Argentinian and Illhorn are just a few of them. The trails don't start directly around Sion and Sierre, but in the side valleys. For example in the Val d'Annivier, the Val d'Hérens and around Crans-Montana. Time and again, however, the long descents lead into the main valley. The region also has something to offer in terms of bike parks, with Crans-Montana and St-Luc providing two of the best freeride and downhill spots in Switzerland.

The region is also interesting in terms of seasonality: Sierre and Sion are located at just under 500 meters above sea level, and the trails on the southern slopes are often snow-free all year round. However, the big trail classics almost all lead up to or above the 3,000-metre mark and are usually rideable from mid-July.

Getting there

Arrival by public transport

Intercity trains from Lausanne/Martigny and Brig/Visp take you to Sion and Sierre. The onward journey is then usually by PostBus, which travels to all side valleys every hour and can transport up to six mountain bikes at the rear. If more mountain bikes need to be transported, a large trailer is available (it is important to book in advance by telephone). You can also travel to Crans-Montana from Sierre by post bus, but it is much quicker to take the funicular railroad, which runs directly from the center of Sierre to Crans-Montana.

Arrival by car

The journey by private vehicle to Sion and Sierre is on the highway from Sierre/Martigny or from the Upper Valais. All side valleys and the Crans-Montana region are accessible from there via cantonal roads.
