Crans-Varneralp
Description
From Crans-Montana, take the road to Aminona and from there continue uphill to the Alp Cave du Sex. Pass this and continue uphill along the alpine road until the path to Varneralp branches off to the right. The route follows this for the next five kilometers or so, although the bike often has to be pushed here. The effort is worth it. The view from Varneralp is second to none - as is the descent to Varen. The singletrail is top class and is only a little technical at the beginning, then flowy without end. In Varen, the route follows the cycle path to Leuk and on to Susten. You return to Sierre through the unique and protected Pfynwald forest, always following the yellow hiking trail signs.
Alternatives: Return from Varen via Salgesch to Sierre

We rode the described tour on 3.8.24 and enjoyed it very much! At an altitude of approx. 1500 there is a descent variant further west that ends in Taschonieren (is classified as black-dotted on the ride map), which we rode and can recommend.
Great tour! I rode it yesterday (unfortunately a bit cloudy, so not such a great view.
As for the rating: It is always or mostly steep and sometimes rough up to Varner Leitern (Pt. 1051)... Can of course also be interpreted as flow ;-) But it should be mentioned that there are places where there is a risk of falling (above Varner Leitern). Technically a hard 3 compared to the Brazilian...., for example
Tips:
From Crans by train for 15CHF to les Violettes. From there down the trails and rough gravel roads to the original route (or on the bisse above, but only if there are few hikers, there are "homemade" no biking signs...).
From Varen, follow one of the two bisses that lead above Salgesch towards Sierre, wonderful!
We did the tour yesterday in cool weather. Unfortunately, we couldn't fully enjoy the view because of the low clouds. From the Alpage du Sex to Varneralp we had about 1 ½ hours, with the pushing passages always being replaced by rideable sections, which is why I didn't find this part of the tour so bad. I didn't find the descent "flowy without end" either, as it was mostly quite steep and often very rough. But it was still a lot of fun, partly because of this. All in all, a great tour!
The view is really brilliant. However, you shouldn't underestimate the carry/push sections. You have to carry/push your bike here for a good 1.5 to 2 hours. Unfortunately, I didn't find the trail really flowing either, apart from a few smaller sections, the rest is pretty washed out or covered in scree. All in all, quite a lot of effort for relatively little good trail, but that is always in the eye of the beholder.
Very nice tour with great views. I rode it today from Crans. Little traffic until Alp Cave du sex. After the hiking trail junction towards Vareralp you are almost alone on the way. Met exactly 3 friendly hikers as far as Leuk! Technically a nice 3rd tour. The tour is recommendable!
Really a very nice trail in a beautiful landscape. And the view from Varneralp is truly incredible! The ascent forces you to push or carry a lot, but it's definitely worth the effort. The descent is rather easy, but varied and great fun!
