Torrent-Trail (Leukerbad)

There is a wealth of single trails hidden between Leukerbad and the Lötschental. The tour from the Rinderhütte via the Bachalp into the Lötschental is first-class riding fun.

Description

In Leukerbad, the gondola lift to the Rinderhütte takes over the first ascent. The singletrail fireworks begin just behind the mountain station. The gently sloping trail leads high above the Rhône valley via Oberu to Bachalp, where the downhill fun comes to an end for the first time. A forest road leads up to Niwenalp, before a single trail continues up a pleasant gradient. Above the Feselalp you reach an alpine road, which you follow via Stafelalp to the Heruhubel. The descent leads to the Obere Meiggu-Alp, then winds downhill through the forest, past the Untere Meiggu-Alp and finally as an ever-so-slightly sloping mountain trail through extremely steep terrain to Jeizinen. In the neighboring village of Engerssch, turn left onto the trail to Erschmatt. If you want to return to Leukerbad, the singletrail fun is now over. Mountain roads take you via Feschel to Albinen and on to the valley station of the mountain railroad. The last section to Leukerbad is another wonderful singletrail. The tour is more fun if you tackle the descent from Feschel to Leuk and take the bus back to Leukerbad. This takes you along the signposted hiking trails via Wiler to the large satellite ground station and from there on to Leuk. Ideally, you should board the bus to Leukerbad at Leuk train station.

Alternatives: From Feselalp directly to Jeizinen without the detour into the Lötschental valley; descend from Feschel to Leuk and take the bus back to Leukerbad

Tip: Tackle the tour as a day trip and take the bus to Leukerbad early in the morning. For the return journey, either descend in the Lötschental valley directly to Goppenstein or from Jeizinen to Gampel and take the train back home

We took the day pass and rode the flow trail circuit twice more before continuing on the Torrent trail. A fantastic high-altitude trail awaited us - easy to ride, with an incredible amount of flow. Simply top!

However, the counter-climb is a tough one - especially if you're riding without a motor 😉. But it's worth it.
The subsequent descent remains nice and flowy at first, but then becomes increasingly steeper and more technical. All in all, a very rewarding trail with a varied character.

We are happy to award it the gold medal. With a summit finish on top, it would even have earned a platinum award from us!

We started the tour from Leukerbad and ended there too. Above Jeizinen you can stay at altitude. It was roughly 1700m. Fun trails, all of them easy with the already described poisonous counter-climbs.
The nice little pedestrian zone in Leukerbad is great for an after-ride beer or café :)

Superb tour with great views of the Valais and the Lötschental. Racy descent, particularly challenging in the last section. The trail was partly covered in pine needles and cones.

5.10.2024 - Magnificent tour with unique panoramic views. At the start the ground was frozen and slippery, by 11am most of it had melted. Part of the descent is heavily eroded by the rain, but overall a great descent. Concentration is required until the last meter.

Beautiful and sometimes wild tour. The start is great. A flowing trail with some tough climbs. The view and the fauna are amazing, at least when the weather is nice 😎 Enjoy the fruit cake in the Bachalp broom restaurant. The next ascent is very steep in places.... but you are rewarded at the summit with an incredibly beautiful view and a super fun trail. From Jeizinen it gets wild and the trail gets rougher. All in all, a great tour.

Very nice tour.

If you want to get from Leuk to the Rinderhütte starting point under your own steam, I can recommend the following route off the main road to Leukerbad:

Leuk, Obere Lichten, Brunnen, Windhubil, Guttet, Undere Guggerhubel, Tschärmilonga. Then traverse on a beautiful singletrail to Torrentalp and from there on the alpine road to the Rinderhütte.

That's 1600m in one go. So good training ;-). Including the tour there are then approx. 2300hm and approx. 55km.

The tour is a real highlight!
The trails are currently top-notch, dry and well maintained. Due to the starting altitude of 2500m, it can be difficult to breathe at the beginning - especially on the nasty climbs.
Now in summer, there are plenty of options for refreshments along the route, so you could do without a picnic.
Until 2.9.2022, the Jeizinen Trail is closed during the week due to logging from the junction to Gampel!
If you want to get back to Leuk-Stadt, you'll have to take a longer route along the Rotten and unfortunately without the fun descent from Jeizinen to Obergetwing.
On weekends and public holidays everything is normally passable.

Ingenious natural flow trail with few difficult passages, highly recommended. Panorama practically unbeatable!

Did this tour in August 2020, highly recommended also the Torrent Horn, you can impress a few hikers there.

Checked

There are still some snowfields to overcome. Not always without danger. In a few weeks, the trail will certainly be free of snow. Nevertheless, it was great fun once again!
