Mule tracks in the Alps! Säumer (more rarely Saumer, Austrian also Samer) were people who transported loads over the mountains on the backs of pack animals. For centuries, they mainly transported salt and wine on mule tracks over the passes of the Alps.

This is also the case on the enduro route from Moosalp to Kalpetran in the Mattertal, where a trail almost overgrown with summer grass swings out of the high forest over mountain meadows, down to dark, sun-tanned wooden huts. 

The muleteers here once brought cheese from the alp to the valley on mules and donkeys. Just like people, farm animals also don't want to be unnecessarily tired - so the paths are not too steep and have no steps - perfect for biking.
