Aletsch Bike Marathon

The "Aletsch Bike Marathon" no longer exists. But the tough marathon route is still rideable today and a tour for anyone looking to push themselves to the limit.

Description

The starting point of the Aletsch Bikemarathon route is at the valley station of the Bettmeralp cable car. To warm up, the route first runs along the Rhone to Filet. Passing the campsite, the route first heads towards Bister, but then follows the forest path through the Langundwald forest in Pfäwi. You gradually pass the villages of Zen Achru, Eiste and Tunetsch until you turn sharp right into a technical singletrail at the mountain station. Along the height, the trail first leads into the valley and then out again on the other side to Bännu. Continue towards Grengiols on an asphalt road, taking the turn-off to Bächerhuschere above the village. This is followed by a very long climb up to the Breithorn. 1349 vertical meters later, a rough mountain road leads rapidly down to Sickerchäller, where you continue riding along the Saflisch to Chelliwald. Another singletrail leads steeply down to Heiligkreuz. Shortly before the village, take the forest path to the left along the mountain flank and, after another singletrail, you will reach the small lake at Wileren.

Binn is the name of the next village and shortly after the church, the marathon route branches off to the left, up towards Äbnimatt. From there it goes almost along the fall line down into the Schlättergrabe and continues on the road to Ausserbinn. Just before the town sign, turn right uphill and then at the first hairpin bend continue straight ahead on a singletrail up to the crest. Then down onto the road to Ernen and on to Mühlebach. The shortcut over the Rotten to the other side of the valley takes the marathon riders up to the Gibelegg and from there through the forest down to Fieschertal. Turn left in the middle of the village, cross the Wysswasserbach stream and continue along the trail to Blätz. Here the route rides along a bisse until you reach Fiesch via Obermatte. Continue in the direction of Lax, where the last ascent leads via Ritena through the Laxerwald forest to the Laxeralp. If you have any reserves now, you can set off on the final sprint, which rides over the Martisbergeralp to the finish on the Bettmeralp.
