Eggerhorn

The Eggerhorn high above the Binntal valley is the destination of an exceptional singletrail tour that is hardly known. The descent from the summit to Fiesch is an insider tip away from the well-known routes in Valais.

Description

From Fiesch station, the route first heads downhill to the riverbank before following the hiking trail and mountain road to Ernen. The route now follows the road to Binn, bypassing the long tunnel on the old road high above the Binna. In Binn, the 700-metre ascent to Äbnimatt and on to Sattulti awaits. Up to the summit, the bike has to be pushed again and again or carried in places, adding up to 370 meters in altitude. The view from the summit is phenomenal. The descent into the Rappetal valley requires good riding technique, as the trail is repeatedly cut relatively deep into the terrain. At the Putzera-Suone, turn right and follow the path down to the valley floor. Now you enter the single trail, which always rides to the right of the Milibach stream through the entire Rappetal valley down to Mühlbach. A little below the village, you cross the Lamma Gorge on the suspension bridge, climb a few meters on the road to Bellwald and then complete the last section to Fiesch on singletrails.

Rode the tour today. Everything was great except for the descent into Rappetal. It is very badly eroded. I pushed more than I rode. Can't quite agree with the comments beforehand. I was pretty annoyed. Afterwards out of the Rappetal to Fiesch very good.

4 white dogs were very aggressive, 1 hour threatened up to 1m. Next time I will take pepper spray with me, as is usual in Romania to protect against wolves.

I rode this tour in July 23, but ended up in a herd protection area.
Be sure to take this map into account when planning the tour: Map HSH areas of operation (protectiondestroupeaux.ch)

The view from the Eggerhorn is phenomenal. The descent to z'Mübach would actually be "good" riding, except for a few places. However, the first part of the trail is sometimes very eroded and forces you to descend. From Abweid, the trail becomes smoother. After the short ascent from Fürgangen-Bellwald after the suspension bridge, a trail highlight follows to Fiesch and forms a worthy conclusion to the tour.

Thank God, no dogs encountered.
They're probably deeper in the Rappental now.

Cool tour! The last 2-3 km ascent to the Eggerhorn was not rideable for me. At the northern flank of the Eggerhorn you'll find the entrance to the bunker tunnel (open) - or you can ask the shepherdess, there's a second entrance:-)
The descent into Rappental is mostly rideable - if you're not too clumsy. The shepherd dogs in the Rappental gave me more trouble - they were quite aggressive and I had to flee with a bite to the backside... Trail afterwards to Mülebach (Niederärner Chäller) first class!
Great panorama, highly recommended! Unsuitable for eBikes!

The descent into the Rappetal valley is very narrow and deep in places, and the pedals can often get stuck here. This trail is not recommended for bikers who mainly descend on the left, as the descent is mainly steep.
The trail to Alp Fried is wider and more flowy, but is apparently no longer maintained and is overgrown in some places or small stone slides slow down the flow.
The world-class trail towards Niederärner Chäller is a big disappointment! It's slippery all over and no longer maintained either - what a shame, it used to be really nice. After Niederärner Chäller there is another fun high-speed section to Ernen.
Conclusion:
Ascent: very pleasant, pushing section not too bad
View: great
Descent: sosolala, the Valais definitely has better things to offer!
