Galmihornhütte

The Galmihornhütte is located high above the Goms and is a perfect destination for a mountain bike tour with an easy ascent and a wonderful singletrail descent.

Description

The tour to the Galmihornhütte starts in Münster with the transfer to Reckingen. This leads along gravel roads and cycle paths parallel to the main road. The long ascent begins in Reckingen. 1070 meters in altitude have to be covered on a mountain road that winds its way through the Bächital valley. Finally, you reach the ridge and thus the culmination point of the tour. From up here, there is a wonderful view of the whole of Obergoms. The trail that leads from here down to the Galmihornhütte is also clearly visible. This is the perfect place to stop for refreshments, even if you have to climb 100 meters of altitude on the way back up for the descent. The actual downhill trail begins at the crossroads at 2219 meters above sea level and leads down a wonderfully flowing descent via Altstafel and Tomebine to the small road from the ascent. A little below, the route turns right into a first-class singletrail. This later climbs slightly again to Riti, but you are then rewarded with the winding and rooty final section down to Münster. If you don't have the energy, skip the climb to Ritzi and ride the short remaining section on the gravel road to Münster.

We climbed up to the Galmihornhütte from Münster. The gravel road is very easy to do and fewer meters in altitude (as well as the possibility of shortcuts) played into our hands due to the forecast rain.
Unfortunately, we had to decide against taking a break at the hut in order to arrive at the bottom dry. But it made a cozy impression with a great view.
The descent is beautiful, although rather easy. For people with a strong fear of heights, the uppermost part could be a challenge, as the path is slightly exposed here. But as it is technically quite easy, you can ride it very well.
All in all, a nice short half-day tour.

Very nice tour to the Galmihornhütte. The hut warden is also an enthusiastic biker and invests in trail maintenance. Thank you very much! The descent is a very nice, towel-wide trail. Partly exposed but always rideable or rollable.

Ascent on the official bike path from Münster to the mountain hut. The descent is very nice, with a few technically demanding passages. We really enjoyed it.

Awesome tour!

The ascent is uphill on the gravel road, but everything is rideable. The downhill is awesome from the first moment down into the valley.

Wow, what a fantastic tour! The climb is a long one, I found it quite tough overall. But it's worth all the effort! On an absolutely top trail back down into the valley! For me it was exactly "the right level of challenge": basically all rideable, but still quite challenging. Thank you for this tour! I still have a big grin on my face.

We rode the tour on 20.09.2020. The ascent is very easy to ride without any major ramps. The trail to the hut is quite technical in parts but very fun to ride. The excellent biker pasta in the hut came in handy, as we needed some energy to get back on the trail. However, the climb back up was well worth it, as the trail afterwards was excellent, even if we had to negotiate the occasional river or large blocked passages on foot. After a short intermediate section on a forest path, the route quickly turns into a single trail again. The high-level trail back to Münster is also excellent. Rating: Highly recommended and I would happily do it again. As I hadn't had enough for today, I added the board tour.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always the last one by a long way.

Ascent very good, trail also very rideable. Has three four bends which are technically difficult and two/three places which are better on foot. Did this one after rain.

I did the tour at the beginning of June. The ascent is very pleasant with a constant gradient. It's worth taking dry socks with you as the snowfield is quite wide.
The descent is rather challenging, especially if you are riding the route for the first time...

From the hut, the hiking trail is very demanding in parts and even impassable...
