Furka-Trail
Description
The ascent from Oberwald to the Furka Pass is ideally mastered by post bus - in the summer months there is heavy traffic on the pass road. However, the Furka Pass is not the end of the ascent. The route continues on a rough gravel road to the Bidmer, the mountain ridge high above the pass road. A flowing singletrail rides downhill here, but the panorama of the Bernese Alps and the entire Obergoms is even more impressive. The Matterhorn can also be seen on the horizon in the background.
The descent continues down past the Firbäch, Lichere and Gand Alps. At times, the path here was cut deep into the terrain and difficult to ride, but since the path was renovated in summer 2024, it is now pure trail fun. A gravel road is reached at Alp Gand, which you follow to the village of Gere. Here you head into the last singletrail section, which rides directly to the first houses in Unterwassern. Finally, it's just a few more flat meters back to Oberwald.

Confirmation of the comments also from our side (ridden on 20.9.2025). Very scenic trail and after the renovation also smooth and enjoyable to ride. We had a lot of fun. It may be too boring for the S3+ group, but a top trail for the S2 connoisseurs.
Coming from the Andermatt side, we left the car at the top of the pass and took the trail to get used to the area for the WE with an overnight stay in Oberwald. The driver then rode up by bus in the evening and picked up the car. Shuttle buses with bikes require a reservation in the summer months. Only the first bus in the morning, which only rides from Oberwald to the top of the pass, has bike trailers (= 20 spaces), all the others that ride to Andermatt only have the rack at the back (= 5 spaces), which of course are quickly gone on nice WEs. The reason for this is that trailers are banned on the Antermatt side of the Furka Pass, because the road and especially the hairpin bends are too narrow.
Agree with the comment below me. The panorama is impressive, the trail is easy and very reminiscent of one of the many flow trails in bike parks. I was expecting more of a natural trail in this area. But it's still fun and the last section from Hungerburg adds some variety.
Unfortunately, the bus ride up costs quite a lot for a descent... at least as a German:)
Personally, I wouldn't want to cycle up the pass road myself...the traffic is too heavy for me.
The route from the top of the pass is very easy. First a wide gravel road, then an easy single trail.
Unfortunately, Hungerberg was (still?) closed when we passed it in the morning.
The tour lives above all from the magnificent panorama, less from the descent, which is relatively easy.
Completed this tour today. From Andermatt up the Furkapass road and joined the tour at the top of the pass. Unique panorama, almost no people and a great trail (not blocked and today dry & very dusty). Only on the section to the Hungerberg restaurant (approx. 200m) did I have to push my organic bike in places. From Oberwald it was then a comfortable train ride back to Andermatt.
We started from Gletsch and rode our e-bikes to the top of the pass. From there, a wonderful trail with an impressive panorama leads to the start of the trail. The trail is then flowy and can be mastered without any major difficulties. The ascent to Hungerberg is easy to ride if you have the right skills and is recommended because the restaurant offers local specialties that are great.
Afterwards, there is another wonderful natural trail to Oberwald. A tour that I can recommend without reservation.
Ridden on the official opening day (28.06.25). The post bus shuttles 20+ bikers up to the pass on a trailer and off we go. Just the 2km before the actual trail starts are some of the greatest panoramic views! Furka, Grimsel & Rhone glacier fan out in front of you - grandissima!
The trail does not present any major difficulties and meanders nicely along the mountain towards the valley. The short ascent to the Hungerberg and the mountain station of the former chairlift is a nice challenge for those who manage to ride it 😏
Then again via some trail and finally the road back to the village - a nice half-day tour
Tour at the end of September 2019 by organic bike on a weekday to avoid the many motorized pass riders as much as possible. Started in Oberwald VS, short stop at the Rhonequelle restaurant. Onward journey very pleasant to Furka Pass summit. Not all rideable as far as Bidmer: short pushing passages due to exposure & blocked path. The rest of the description above is pretty accurate. Sensational, unique view of famous mountain (massifs) in good conditions. Highly recommended for very good bikers. My wife had to get off her bike a few times while riding Nidsi and had to push her way around the toughest notches.
