Almost all of the Haute Route Goms is at over 2500 m above sea level in high alpine terrain. Accordingly, the majority of the six ascents in total have to be completed by pushing or carrying. Description

The Grimsel Pass, the starting point of the tour, can be reached by post bus from both Goms and Meiringen. You then climb around 100 meters in altitude on the road to Oberaar to reach Triebtenseeli via a gravel road. From here, you have to push and carry your bike around 300 meters up to the Triebtenseelicke. The subsequent descent is crisp, partly blocked and requires your full attention. You reach the Jostsee and tackle the 150-metre ascent, mostly by pushing. This is followed by a short descent, a flat section past a lake and then the next ascent as a pushing passage. In this style, you steadily gain altitude to reach the crossing above Lake Trützi after a total of six ascents. The final descent is a good 1400 meters in altitude, and can be divided into three sections. The first section to Lake Trützi is high alpine, fun and rideable throughout. The second section from the lake to Oberstafel is partly blocked, rough and very steep. According to the motto all good things come in threes, the best is saved for last.
