Passo San Giacomo
Description
It is best to start the tour at the Griespass postbus stop just below the Nufenen Pass. Please note: Postbus transport capacity is limited, and only a few buses a day ride here from Oberwald/Ulrichen. The first section leads along the little road up to Mändeli high above the Griessee. A flowing trail follows the height southwards to the Griespass, where the superb descent to Lago die Morasco begins. At Riale, the ascent to the Fischsee and on to the Passo San Giacomo is almost 600 meters long. At Alp San Giacomo, turn left and follow the singletrail up to the futuristic Grieshütte. The trail is easy to ride, even uphill, but the terrain is initially very steep. From the Grieshütte, continue climbing up the Val Corno, turn right just before the pass and then head downhill on the singletrail to the little road where you started the tour. The final descent through the Ägenetal valley is a little technical and tricky at first, but then becomes smoother and smoother. The trail ends in the village of Zum Loch near Ulrichen and is a brilliant end to a unique route.

The path is not only marked with a small sign, but is also clearly closed.
We parked the car below the Corno Gries hut on the pass road, pushed up to the hut for about 45 minutes, unloaded our backpacks and then did the loop to spend the night at the hut.
Beautiful scenery, especially above the hut. The trail down to Riale is actually the 4 points from my point of view. Riale itself was very crowded in mid-August. After an espresso, we quickly moved on and the closer we got to Passo San Giacomo, the quieter it became again. The trail towards the hut is very exposed in places, but easy to ride. The overnight stay at the hut was great. Nice team and good food.
ATTENTION: The path from the Nufenen Pass road to the Gries Pass has been closed since mid-August 2017 (danger of falling rocks). More information here: http://www.1815.ch/news/wallis/aktuell/der-weg-geht-eventuell-nie-mehr-…
