Passo del Sole
Description
From Airolo, take the mountain road via Madirano and Brugnasco to the Ritom reservoir at the entrance to Val Piora. Follow the alpine road along the lake and pass the Cadagno hut. Up to here, the ascent is moderate and easy. After Alpe Carorescio at the latest, however, the going gets tough. The final section on the singletrail up to the Passo del Sole is strenuous and forces one or two bikers to walk. The scenery on the pass is as fantastic as the trail down into the Valle Santa Maria - provided you have good riding technique. This is recommended for most of the descent. Via Lareccio and Frodalera you reach the main road, where you turn left after a tunnel onto Via Romana and reach the Campra sports center. Follow the bike and later the hiking signs as far as Olivone. Ideally, you should then cycle on the road or along the official bike route to Biasca and then take the train back to Airolo.
Alternatives: Less experienced cyclists can always follow the official mountain bike route (Gottardo Bike) from Piano to Olivone.

A beautiful tour. The ascent is very demanding at the end. But it is rewarded with a beautiful view and the scenery is also very beautiful. The descent in the upper part is smooth and fun to ride. The lower part is quite rough, as we know it from Ticino. I'll definitely do it again when the weather in the north is better .....
Ascent to the pass with ebike great to ride, descent to Stabbio Nuovo quite heavily rutted by bikers. The rest of the descent is ok.
The trail has probably been extended and 'liquefied', especially in the upper section. I think it's a shame, you used to be more technically challenged.
Great trail but complex logistics. As suggested, you have to ride a long way by bike to Biasca and then take the train back to Airolo. It is much easier to start in Olivone, take the bus to the Lukmanier Pass, then the train to the Passo del Sole via the Passo dell'Uomo and then the Passo del Sole. The Passo dell'Uomo is very "bumpy" and you have to push for a while. But this variant takes you back to the start and you can ride all the good parts.
