Capanna Adula
Description
The ascent to the Adula hut begins spectacularly with the old connecting road between Olivone and Campo. The gravel road has been blasted into the rock here and rides through the middle of the rocky Brenno gorge. After the rocky passage, the road is asphalt for a long time. The ascent leads to the dam wall of Lago di Luzzone and from here over a steep little road and through a long tunnel (illuminated) to Passo Muazz. This is followed by a long ascent through the wild and romantic Val di Carassino. The road becomes increasingly gravely and rides until just above the Capanna Adula. A plate of polenta is the order of the day here before the descent begins.
Less experienced riders should initially follow the ascent route, then branch off to Alp Compietto and take the direct singletrail down to Olivone. Although there are a few descents here, the trail is generally fun and much more flowy than most of the other trails in the Blenio Valley and Sopra Ceneri. The descent ends right on the outskirts of Olivone.
Good riders head straight from the Adula hut down the serpentine trail to Dangio. This is extremely difficult in the first section and the bends can only be negotiated with practiced turning. The further you descend, the smoother the trail becomes - but it is still challenging. In Soi, the technical fun comes to an end and you primarily follow the gravel road, interrupted by individual singletrail sections, down to Dangio. On side roads, you master the almost 100 meters in altitude that you have to overcome back to Olivone.

I rode the tour on 27.07.2021, had it on my to-do list for a long time. The climb to Campo is actually quite impressive and easy to ride. In Campo I first made a detour to Cantonill via Pradasca. The ascent there was almost completely rideable, but the downhill back to Campo was quite technical with a few descents, but still okay. As described in the text, the ascent to the hut is initially quite steep below the dam wall and then wildly beautiful and long. The downhill was very, very difficult for the first 200 meters, I had to get off my bike again and again. From about 1800m above sea level it was easy to ride and quite fun. Unfortunately, you then lose far too many meters on boring gravel roads until you reach a section of okay trail at 1004m. All in all, rather disappointing. Next time I would do the Compietto descent (see my report on this tour), not because of the difficulty, but because of the trai part.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always last, by a long way.
Beautiful tour into a remote valley. The descent directly from the hut is difficult but, as mentioned in the description, can be mastered with the right riding technique. It is really great up to "Mont da Soi". Unfortunately, this is followed by a relatively long section with a moderately interesting forest path.
Great route. I disagree with the previous writer. Everything up to Capanna Adula is rideable. The first 150 m of the direct descent are not rideable for me. But the rest is all the more awesome ;-)
Combine the break at the SAC with lunch and buy some cheese for dinner at Alp Carasina.
A great tour.
Yesterday we decided on the route for "less experienced" riders. I don't know what the author's criteria are, but at least 60% of it is NOT rideable even for good bikers! At the beginning (just after the Alp), the path is very narrow and exposed. It goes up and down again and again, with large obstacles that are impossible to ride. The serpentine downhill afterwards is also more demanding than average and, as mentioned, almost impossible to ride.
Fortunately, we didn't try the direct route down from the hut, as we would have walked 100% :(
