Gottardo Bike

The Gottardo Bike route is considered one of the most attractive routes in Switzerland as a mountain biking destination. It rides from Andermatt to Biasca through the heart of Switzerland and boasts a high proportion of single trails.

Description

The tour begins with the historic ascent from Andermatt or Hospental to the Gotthard Pass. The route primarily follows the main road, with one section on the trail parallel to the road and the last few meters on the old, historic road. On the Gotthard Pass, the ascent is not yet complete; the route continues on a small road to the Scimfuss Pass. A high-level trail now leads far into the Val Canaria, you pass Orello and finally reach Airolo. The descent is largely along alpine roads, but you can always switch to alternative sections on single trails. In Airolo you start the ascent to Lake Ritom, a small road rides up to the reservoir. Now you change to an alpine road, climb up to the Cadagno hut and later climb the Passo dell'Uomo on a path that is very steep at times. A rough goods road leads from here down to the Lukmanier Pass, where the real downhill fun begins. Here you have to leave the official route for a few meters and follow the singletrail along the main road. A few meters of ascent are required to start the wonderful descent at Campo Solario. After a plateau, you leave the signposted route again at the main road, ride through a tunnel and then immediately turn left onto the historic path down to Campra. Here you are back on the official route, which you follow to Olivone. This section is very technical and challenging in places. From Olivone, always follow the official route through the Blenio Valley, which is a nice alternative to the main road.
