Garvers dil Tgom
Description
Leaving Sedrun station to the west, you head down to the cantonal road, which is only used briefly. Parallel to this, you roll along a gravel path to Rueras, where the route rides down to the Vorderrhein. From here, the route climbs around 1100 meters in one go. After a pleasant climb, the road rides up to Alp Tgom. After the clearing at Sut Seivs, it becomes somewhat steeper, and after the Tgom mountain station (not in operation in summer), strong calves are required. The trail leads up over the ridge of Alp Tgom - steep but rideable. At the latest at Stavel Sisum, the rideability comes to an end and the bike takes its place on the hump. The trail gradually climbs a good 300 meters to Nual and on to Garvers dil Tgom, from where you have a view of almost the entire Vorderrheintal valley.
Once you've had your fill of the panorama, you need to concentrate. The roll down to the pass is short, then it gets challenging. One tight hairpin bend follows the next for around 200 Elevation loss until you change sides on a small plain in Val Nual and give your hands a break. The entire descent is dotted with short, pathless sections, but these do not spoil the riding experience. After Stavel Nual Sura, the trail becomes wilder and surprises with some tricky passages such as stone steps, until the section ends at Stavel Nual Sut, the lower-lying alp. You have to put up with a few cow kicks here. As you enter the forest, the character of the trail changes, but not the difficulty. It constantly changes between fine and flowy to very tricky. Very good riders will get their money's worth on the entire descent. After Plaun Pirota and another stream crossing, the long descent ends on an alpine road. Less than 200 meters further on, you leave this road and continue your ride on the Senda Plaun Miez, a trail that runs parallel to the alpine road further down the valley. Back on the valley floor, follow the young Rhine to the power station and change sides of the river. Passing the power station and quarry, you return to Sedrun via a side road.
Note:
- Because of its difficulty but also the panoramic views, it is worth tackling the tour in fine weather and dry conditions.
