Gottardo-Pässetour
Description
The Gottardo Pass Tour is a two-day trail firework display that can actually be started anywhere along the route. Meiringen has proven to be a suitable starting point, from where you can take the post bus up to the Grimsel Pass. The sensational descent down to Oberwald begins at the small lake, initially on old mule tracks, then on fun, flowing single trails. In Oberwald, you can hop back on the Postbus or ride a little further down the valley and then get on in Ulrichen. The bus takes you up towards the Nufenen Pass. Just below the top of the pass, you get off at the "Griespass" station and now crank up to the dam wall of Lake Gries under your own steam. From here it gets a little steeper, on a trail up to the Gries Pass. The pass is the starting point of the long descent through the Bedretto valley, past the futuristic Capanna Corno Gries to the San Giacomo chapel and then down the crisp serpentine trail to All'Aqua. Now it's a more leisurely ride along the valley floor to Airolo, the stage finish.
The second day starts just like the first - in the Postbus. This time up to the Gotthard Pass. From the top of the pass, you head parallel to the busy main road on single trails down to Hospental and on to Andermatt. The following section through the Schöllenen Gorge is insignificant in terms of single trails, but all the more impressive in terms of scenery. Through tunnels, over the Devil's Bridge and finally on well-maintained cycle paths, you descend to Göschenen and on to Wassen - where the Postbus is waiting to take you up to the Susten Pass. The pass is the starting point for the final descent down through the Gadmertal valley, initially on trails, after Steingletscher even on a very challenging one, then on gravel roads parallel to the main road. At Wyler above Innertkirchen, the route branches off to the right to return to Meiringen on a mixture of trails and small roads high above the Aare Gorge.
Note: The road to the Gries reservoir is closed due to the risk of falling rocks. Travel on this section at your own risk. An alternative route is the direct descent from the Nufenen Pass to All'Aqua.

We tackled the tour last weekend.
The two-day trail fireworks are a bit over the top..... The descent from the Grimsel is a pleasure. Very varied and rideable throughout. The post bus in Ulrichen is out of time. So we rode up the Nufenen under our own steam. At the turn-off from the main road (Griespass stop), a section is closed due to falling rocks. Despite the closure, there were many hikers on the way. There is a detour - up to you.... Nice descent to the Corno Gries hut. The subsequent trial is exhausting with several small counter-climbs. The subsequent descent to All Aqua is very overgrown, blocked and some trees are still in the way. It seems to me that this trail is no longer maintained. If I were to ride it again, I would look for an alternative from the Corno Gries hut and not follow the trial.
The descent from the Gotthard to Wassen is very nice, but the post bus is also out of time. Fortunately, we organized a cab transport the evening before (Baumenn Severin 0792092459). He shuttled us (five people incl. bike) up the Susten.
The descent from Susten was nothing spectacular. There was some singletrack in the upper section, then almost exclusively dirt track, gravel road and pass road. At Gadmen there was another short, fun trail.
The descent from the Grimsel Pass to Oberwald is very rewarding. Rideable throughout despite some very steep passages between 1980m and 1900m. As an alternative, the hiking trail via "Altstafel" could be used from 1920m above sea level.
On the descent from the Corno-Gries hut, there are a few very exposed passages before San Giacomo which can only be ridden to a limited extent. On Saturdays and Sundays there are many hikers on the trail. The descent from All'Uomo to Carnisc is very bumpy and overgrown. Partly not rideable. As an alternative, the path to Stabbiascoio could be used from All'Uomo. This path is currently being widened and leveled. The descent from the Gotthard Pass to Hospental is a pleasure!
Planned
Griessalp is (officially) closed - the section before All'Acqua in Bedretto is partially impassable due to fallen trees.
And: Postbus from Wassen to Susten only rides twice a day, so it's also rather difficult if you don't want to hitchhike up yourself :-)
