Engelberg–Melchsee

The route from the Joch Pass near Engelberg through the Melch Valley is one of the most attractive bike routes in Central Switzerland with few ascents and plenty of descents.

Description

Stans is the starting point for the Melchsee tour. You first take the train to Engelberg, then change to the gondola to Trüebsee and finally take the chairlift to the Jochpass. This is where the tour really takes off. A wonderful single trail leads down to Engstlenalp, the short ascent to Tannalp then results in a short pushing section until you reach Frutt through the wonderful lake landscape. Now follow the hiking trail downhill to Stöckalp and then continue the descent to the left of the road on trails and dirt tracks. Only when the valley becomes very narrow do you have to take the road for a longer stretch. Finally, you reach Kerns and return to Stans on the signposted cycle paths.

We did the tour yesterday. But without the train and gondola lift. As the chairlift from Trübsee to the Jochpass is no longer running, the flow trail can be ridden to the top. Almost everything is rideable with an XC Fully. Certainly no problem with an e-bike.

We rode the tour about 2 weeks ago.
Caution: on the descent from Melchsee-Frutt after the junction with the road (Pt. 1613), the original route has been buried by a debris flow or rockfall and the hiking trail now follows a different course. Signs indicate that the route is not passable - but we took the plunge anyway. There were several places where we had to descend (and push/carry). In my opinion, it was still more worthwhile than descending on the road.

Beautiful tour! Technically not that difficult but a dreamlike landscape! Tip from Melchsee there is a joint hiking + bike trail down which is really cool! Well suited for e-bikes!

The mountain railroad currently only transports bikes as far as Trübsee. Jochpass is closed for bikers.

Was disappointed with the tour. Only the singletrail at the beginning was fun. The rest is scenic but not that much fun to ride.

My disappointment probably also stems from the fact that I think that riding technique is more like a 1 to max. 2 and fitness is also completely wrongly entered here. Basically, I would expect the tour ratings to be more or less standardized. I've also been on riding technique 3 ride tours where I could hardly ride anything. All in all frustrating.

I did the tour last fall! A beautiful tour for me. Technically not too demanding. S2! I found the fun and panorama top!!!

Here a little insight
