Obwalden-Umrundung
Description
The tour starts somewhat unspectacularly by following the valley floor from Alpnachstad to Sarnen and then following the northern shore of Lake Sarnen. The long ascent to the Sattelpass begins in Giswil, initially on an asphalt road past Hirtbiel, then on a gravel path up to the pass. This is followed by a short, crisp descent to Schaftelenmoos, where the next ascent begins. This takes you to the idyllically situated Sewenseeli with its impressive view of the Bernese Alps. You now pass Seewenegg on a small road and reach the Glaubenberg Pass and the Langis inn a little further down. Now head into Grosschlierental, following the signposted mountain bike route (o-tour Bike West 291) and later climbing up to Schrotenegg. You pass Chrüzliegg and head into the singletrail descent at Alp Alggäu, which soon turns into a small road to Lütoldsmatt. At this point, you leave the official route and head left up to Fräkmünt. The path becomes increasingly steeper here, and at the end you have to push your bike a few meters up to the Chilchensteinenpass. The effort is worth it, and not just because of the fantastic view of the Central Swiss Alps. The singletrail descent down to Ämsigen and on through the steep forest area to Alpnachstad is a special kind of fun and forms the brilliant conclusion to this first-class route around the canton of Obwalden.
Note: First-class mountain bike technique and a solid level of fitness are essential prerequisites for this tour. However, it can also be shortened at various points or undertaken as a two-day tour.

The description of this route states: The very long and challenging original route can be adapted to suit your own requirements.
To get more ideas, I recommend watching 2 of my video tours in this area and then possibly planning a suitable route. One of my tours takes you up to Pilatus and the other to Lopper and then along the O-Tour to Langis etc. These videos can be seen on YouTube. The links are:

30.7.17: The two of us tackled the OW circuit today, but had to abandon it after about 2/3 of the route at Lütoldsmatt due to the weather. We were both amazed at the "riding technique" rating, or would rate it completely differently. The descent from Sattelpass to Schaftelenmoos is simply unrideable. This has nothing to do with a grade 3. From our point of view, it's a 6. Anyone who rides down there qualifies directly for the Rampage. We didn't like having to carry our bikes down 200m. Unfortunately, most of the other descents are far too easy by contrast, so rather a grade 1-2. The climbs, for their part, are really tough, especially the one from Schaftelenmoos towards Glaubenbergpass. This part has very steep ramps on partially blocked ground or loose rocks.
Overall verdict: This is above all a fitness tour against a wonderful backdrop. However, the downhill fun is very limited.
