Lopper (Renggpass) | Ride MTB

Lopper (Renggpass)

The Lopper is the striking promontory that separates Lake Lucerne from Lake Alpnach. It can be reached by mountain bike via the Rengg Pass, and the singletrail descent is one of the most popular in the region.

Description

From Hergiswil, take the little road up the Schattenberg until the path branches off to the left a little above Vorder Rengg to the Renggpass. At this small crossing between Lucerne and Obwalden, keep left and follow the high-level trail to Lopper. The actual descent begins at the eastern ridge, where the singletrail winds its way through the dense forest over many bends. Finally, you reach the riverside road, on which you roll back to Hergiswil.

The trail between Scheitholz and Renggpass doesn't exist anymore. In the SwissTopo maps is not there any more and there is a metal wire to jump over at the very end

Can't agree with the tour description and the opinions here. I did the tour yesterday and started from Kriens to Fräkmüntegg. The ascent is great, but that's all. The first part of the descent is solala, in between very blocked. The middle section is easy to ride and also somewhat flowy. Then a pushing passage up to the Renggpass, from there briefly flowy, then just scree, gravel and exposed... I was very disappointed, wouldn't do the tour again!

As part of a longer tour, I rode up from Alpnachsee towards Lopper. Past Rengg to Alp Schoffeld. There I pushed the bike up to the Lopper Horizontalweg. Then down the meandering single trail to the lake. The tour I did then continued on some of the O-Tour trails and more. I recorded the tour on video and you can watch it on YouTube. rideable early in the year (was there on 05.03.2017)
not difficult to ride, but somewhat exposed in places.
