Kleine Scheidegg
Description
The start of the tour is tough: the steep ascent along the official mountain bike route to Kleine Scheidegg is 1100 meters long and only initially asphalted. As if it wasn't hard enough, the path becomes particularly steep again at the very end. Although a cogwheel railroad rides from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg, it does not transport mountain bikers. Once on Kleine Scheidegg, a longer break is recommended: the scenery is breathtaking, with the Eiger and its mighty north face towering into the sky directly above, the Mönch can be seen to the left and the glaciated Jungfrau forms the final stage.
On Kleine Scheidegg, the long descent begins via Wengen into the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Just below the train station, you follow the single trail through meadows. Eventually you reach a forest road again and follow this to Wengen. The descent continues at the hamlet of Birchen a little north of the village center. Here, a steep but easily rideable path winds its way down from the Wengen high plateau into the Lauterbrunnen valley, where you ride along the Weisse Lütschine to Zweilütschinen. The return journey to Grindelwald is by train or along the signposted Veloland route 61.
Alternatives:
- From Kleine Scheidegg to the Eigergletscher train station and down the moraine to Haaregg. Beware, there are often lots of hikers here!
- From Klenen Scheidegg instead of via Haaregg along the railroad tracks to Wengeralp station. This makes the route a little easier from a technical point of view.

Same technical rating as Bachalpsee. The Kleine Scheidegg downhill via Wengen seems to me to be at least 1 level easier than Bachalpsee.
Not only the first part of the ascent is steep, but actually the whole ascent. It is also asphalted except for a short final section.
The trail from Wengen into the valley is not so easy to ride with the steps and it is very steep in parts, we felt the classification was higher than 3 out of 6.
We rode the tour as a loop. Shortly after Zweilütschinen there is a large free parking lot. The ride to Grindelwald is also quite steep and paved at the beginning, but then very beautiful along the river.
