Ällgäuwlicka
Description
Though the start of this tour is not very exciting - a high proportion of asphalt characterizes the beginning - the connection from Interlaken to the actual starting point at the transition between Emmental and Lake Brienz can hardly be organized otherwise. After taking the Postbus to Habkern, the ascent begins on the small mountain road up to Lombachalp. Here the path normally branches off towards Augstmatthorn, but there is a no-biking sign at the start of the ascent. Instead, follow the road to Alp Steini, where the route turns into a wide but increasingly rough descent. Finally, you reach the valley of the young Emme - the starting point for the actual ascent to Ällgäuwlicka.
The first 400 vertical meters are on asphalt, then things get more serious on a steep gravel path. The last 200 vertical meters ride along a path on which the bike has to be carried. If you are on an e-mountain bike, you can get a long way up with the motor support. However, you will have to push on the last section. The ascent works quite well with the push assistance, but remains a feat of strength.
On arrival at the top, the scenery on the Ällgäuwlicka rewards you with a phenomenal view of Lake Brienz and the Bernese Alps opposite. It gets even better with a short walk to Schnierenhireli, a spectacular viewpoint.
Then comes the highlight of the tour: the descent. A mostly flowing, only occasionally technical trail winds its way downhill through the steep meadow terrain. In the upper section up to the tree line, the trail is still a little rough, after which it widens and winds its way down to the village of Oberried in many bends. The return journey to Interlaken can be made either along the lakeside road, by train or - particularly atmospheric - by boat.
Note: There is an option to ride along the northern flank of the Gummhore via Lägerli to the start of the Ällgäuwlicka. This option can be seen on some maps. However, it is problematic because a large section without a path leads over pastureland. The path from Ussers Läger is then easily rideable, is used by local alpine farmers on quad bikes, but is located in the Augstmatt hunting ban area.

Did the tour on 9.7.24.
I would give it a 3 out of 6 for riding technique. Level 2 gives the impression that it would be easy. This tour is not. On the Single Trail Map, Ride gives 'red' for the descent to Oberried from the Ällgäuwlika (to see this, however, you have to have an account and there is also a 2/6 in the book that has just been published). 'red' seems appropriate to me. The start at the top is a little more difficult, but soon gets easier. However, the descent is quite steep during most sections, but without steps or ledges. Ride usually awards 3/6 for such tours in my opinion, as my experience with Ride's tours says.
In addition, the descent to the Emme (towards Kemmeribodenbad) is quite bumpy at the end, paved with stones and not exactly easy. If it is damp or wet, this section is likely to be very slippery. The hiking trail over the Emme is closed because a bridge has probably been washed away. You have to continue down the wide path and cross the Emme on the paved road.
The last 400 meters of the ascent to Ällgäuwlika have to be pushed. If you can still ride this, you can already push very well.
The descent afterwards makes up for it in terms of trail flow and panoramic views.
And then I have to say that I had no idea about the ban. I only read the comment from 2020 afterwards (the bafu website no longer loads...). And I didn't notice any signs banning MTBs. What's more, the farmer's wife at Obre Hubel didn't point this out to us in a conversation. And tourist cars also ride up to there.
Just like the tour to the Augstmatthorn, this tour also rides through a hunting ban area and is therefore clearly prohibited.
This tour is not prohibited. The ascent leads over roads in the hunting ban area. The last section on trails must be pushed anyway (which is permitted). The entire descent is outside the hunting ban area.
