Rotstockhütte

Rothornhütte (Mürren)

The Rotstockhütte is located at the foot of the Schilthorn and boasts a phenomenal alpine backdrop. And the single trails. The right combination of mountain railroads and single trails makes the route to the Rotstockhütte one of the best bike tours in the Jungfrau region.

Description

The tour starts with the gondola ride from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp. While the downhillers ride down into the valley, we start the ascent. Climb up to Mittelberg on gravel roads and follow the Mountainbikeland route to the crossing west of the Allmendhubel. There is a short descent and then an ascent via Suppenboden to Schultalp. A little later comes the tour's feat of strength: the bike has to be pushed or carried up 200 meters in altitude. Once you reach Wasenegg, it's time for some fun. The trail to the Rotstockhütte is unparalleled fun, as is the subsequent descent into the Sefinental, albeit a little rougher at times. Finally, you head up the mountain to Gimmelwald, take the gondola lift up to Mürren and then head back to Lauterbrunnen via the well-known singletrail descent.

Route: (Lauterbrunnen -) Grütschalp - Winteregg - Mittelberg - Allmendhubel - Suppenboden - Schiltalp - Wasenegg - Rotstockhütte - Ozen - Firten - Gimmelwald - Mürren - Lauterbrunnen

I cycled the tour on 15.07.2022 with my e-bike. I didn't have to carry my e-bike and the pushing part was doable. Only for experienced cyclists who have their e-bike under control. The descent was worth it!
The Grütsch Trail was very, very dry and therefore challenging to ride.
Would do the tour again.

Ridden, pushed and carried on 11.07.2021!

Super cool tour in the Jungfrau region! The estimated 1000 gates and gates through which you have to squeeze yourself at the beginning to about Suppenboden are a bit tedious. From Suppenboden to Wasenegg is quite a slog and drags on. Carry, push, carry! But what comes next leaves nothing to be desired, trails at their best! You can save yourself the trip up to Gimmelwald by riding directly down into the valley on the hiking trail and then taking the Stechelberg cable car up to Mürren in comfort. And for dessert, of course, the Grütschtrail!

Tour made on 09.08.2019.

I would join you. Highly recommended! Three additions:

1. the marked path towards Winterberg shortly after Mürren is actually forbidden to drive and has many hikers. It may be better to follow the signposted bike route to Winterberg and then take the hiking trail to Staubbachhüttli (S3).

2. the SBB Bike Day Pass and the GA travelcard are valid on the Grütschalpbahn without restriction. If you still have energy left at the end of the tour, simply ride back up and do the Grütsch Trail again (or several times). This DH is easy to master with an enduro bike and is great fun.

3. if you have traveled by train: The way back to Interlaken from Lauterbrunnen can also be done comfortably on the official MTB Route 1 and "ride out" a bit. The old village center and the old church of Wilderswil are well worth seeing.

I rode the tour on 30.07.2019 in bright sunshine. Really great. Scenic and trail-wise. Highly recommended!!!
The final trail from Mürren to Lauterbrunnen was unfortunately closed because a large slope slipped there.
No big deal, because you can quickly get back to Grütschalp via Winteregg on the forest road. Then take the Grütschtrail to Lauterbrunnen :-)
