Sefinafurgga

Sefinafurgga

"Epic" is the right adjective for the tour from the Kiental via the Sefinafurgga into the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The trails and panorama are top class. The route requires a good level of fitness and the willingness to shoulder the bike up 600 meters in altitude

Description

The ascent from the Kiental valley up to Sefinafurgga is a feat of strength - even on the asphalt road in the lower section. It is so steep that it is hard to believe that a post bus still drives up here. But it's no use for mountain bikers, because there's simply no room on the bus for a bike rear carrier in the tight serpentine bends. At Griesalp, turn left to Golderli, where the route later turns into a gravel path. Follow this to Bürgli-Alp, where the alpine road becomes very steep and forces many bikers to walk. By the time you reach the Dürreberg-Alp at the latest, everyone has finished riding, as the bike now rests on their shoulders for a good 600 meters in altitude. The route is easily manageable on foot, with the last few meters leading up a solid wooden staircase. The wow factor comes with the last few steps - when the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau come into view on the back of the Sefinafurgga. The descent is initially steep but rideable, but then becomes increasingly flowy. Only the section above the Rotstockhütte is rough and only rideable in phases. After the hut, the flow fun enters the next round. The route is varied and leads into the Sefinental valley against an impressive backdrop. A bit of gravel road is the order of the day until finally a stepped path leads down to Stechelberg. You now roll along the left bank of the Lütschine to Lauterbrunnen, then change banks and stay on the right bank of the river until you reach Gsteigwiler. Past the former airfield and finally through the residential areas of Interlaken, you reach the main railway station.

Wow, what a brilliantly beautiful tour. One of my most scenic tours. You can only ride about 800 meters up the mountain. But the ascent is absolutely worthwhile. At Sefinafrgga there is a very short (too) steep descent, but after 50m the trail party starts. Simply fantastic. Not easy, but with a bit of skill, everything is rideable. The last few kilometers are leisurely but very beautiful. Real taff mountain biking wow :-)

I rode the tour on 13.8.22 in bright and dry weather, so ideal conditions, which are also necessary for biking at this altitude. The tour demands and asks for everything you could wish for and yes, wow, this mountain scenery at the top. The hikers also gave us looks ranging from amazement to doubt, but everyone was very nice. There weren't many hikers on this route, but more than I expected, as it is also part of the Via Alpina. The entrance to the descent is very difficult, either you go down the stairs or a bad, not really rideable trail. But it's only about 50 meters, then nothing stands in the way of the descent.
