Latreje

Kiental

The Suldal and Kiental valleys are among the most beautiful regions in the Bernese Oberland. The crossing at Latreje combines them into an excellent bike tour.

Description

In Reichenbach, you start the ascent behind the church and follow the mountain road past the village of Faltsche to Steiweid. Here you reach the official mountain bike route number 13 and follow this into the Suldtal valley. The route climbs again on a forest road. If you have never seen the Pochtenfall before, deposit your bike a good 300 meters above the inn and visit the mighty waterfall on foot. The route itself continues up the Suldtal valley, soon keeping to the right and riding up to Latrejefeld via Oberberg-Alp.

The descent leads downhill on a singletrail to Eggmittelberg, then along an alpine road to above Alp Schindlere. Bikers with less technical skills can follow the little road to Spiggegrund, while more experienced bikers can follow the path directly into the valley. Finally, you follow the Soiggebach stream downhill and reach Kiental on the right-hand side of the valley on a single trail. Along the official mountain bike route, you later reach Aris and return to Reichenbach via Kien.

I rode the tour from Frutigen today. The ride up is no problem, but fitness is required. The descent is great. I took the hiking trail. I would advise you to switch to the road as soon as you get down to Spiggenbach. The hiking trail along the stream is not so flowy. There are always cow gates and the path is no longer in top condition.
