Renggpass

The peak of the Wätterlatte towers above the lower Kandertal valley. This can be combined with a bike on an excellent route over the Renggpass.

Description

Just behind the church in Reichenbach, the ascent starts up towards Wätterlatte. A small road leads past the Faltsche settlement, then further and further up to Alp Fulemattli. You have covered almost 1000 meters in altitude by this point. The last section up to the small crossing northeast of the summit of the Wätterlatte must be covered on foot, a total of 200 meters in altitude. The highest point is reached, followed by the descent into the Kiental. The singletrail to the Renggpass and further downhill to Staldeweid is very technical at first, but then quickly becomes smoother and easy to ride. Just above Mieschweid, the trail climbs again for a short distance until it leads downhill as a marked hiking trail. The descent alternates between single trail, forest road and asphalt mountain road and leads past the village of Scharnachtal to Kien and from there back to Reichbach.

Tips:

  • Before the descent, deposit the bike and walk to the summit of the Wetterlätte with its phenomenal view
  • Ride the tour in autumn when there is high fog over the Central Plateau

The path on the left down into the Sultal, mentioned by Thomas as an option, is very steep and apparently often wet. I did it once and would only do it again if it was dry for a long time.

The ascent through the beautiful nature of the... and the crisp carrying passage up to the Renggpass give a promising impression of a great descent. Unfortunately, you are in vain. After a few hundred meters on a singletrail, you will only find alpine and fort roads. One option might be to take the relatively steep path into the Sultal. (Attention! I have not tried this one)
