Blüemlisalphütte

Oeschinensee / Blüemlisalp

The tour from Kiental to Blüemlisalphütte and down to Kandersteg is a kind of tour firework. A tough ascent with the bike on your shoulders, phenomenal scenery with Blüemlisalp and Doldenhorn and a great singletrail descent to Oeschinensee are the ingredients.

Description

The tour starts in Reichbach in the lower Kandertal valley. The start on the little road up into the Kiental is not very spectacular but the scenery is wonderful. You pass the village of Kiental, reach Griesalp and continue along the little road to Bundalp. Then the fun is over. From here, the bike is humped almost exactly 1000 meters in altitude to the Blüemlisalphütte. The path is steep and rutted, and at the end the route leads steeply up to Hohtürli on wooden steps with holding ropes. The hut is now just a stone's throw away.

The descent then takes place on the other side of the mountain. The trail is great to ride, only in the upper part is it briefly equipped with wooden steps. It is important to take a break from time to time on the descent - the scenery with the Blüemlisalp glacier is unique. The trail leads a long way down to the idyllic Oeschinensee, where you have to be considerate of the numerous walkers. The route then leads down to Kandersteg on a mix of small roads and trails. Due to the lack of trail options, you can return to Reichenbach by train or along the cycle path (Route 64 Lötschberg-Jura).

Hello Markus,
I went on the first train and then took the Boschi to Kiental Dorf as a bonus. There is still enough to do. Especially the 800 m ascent. The food in the hut is just brilliant. Because that's quite a treat.
Greetings Peter

I did the tour yesterday on 1.8.17. I set off at 13:00. There were lots of people on the boards. The few hikers I crossed were very respectful and fascinated that I was doing this tour on my bike. But I also have no problem stopping when people are anxiously struggling to keep their balance. Saying hello and communicating is the best recipe.
It was terrific. Supertrail. There are few comparable trails in the Bernese Oberland.
Last year I went from the Kiental over the Sefinenfurgge. A little less high at 2611m. And yet you can still cover around 2000 vertical meters up to Interlaken. For me, it's a matter of honor not to erode the trails with a dragging rear wheel.

Hello Peter,
I am planning this tour for myself for 2018 ;-)
Did you go up and back down on the same day and if so, when did you start?
I would be happy to receive an answer ;-)
Greetings
Mark

Hardly any comments on ride.ch and when there are, only haters...
I think the clip is very well done. It's a great and helpful addition to the tour description. And to the points of criticism:
Riding at off-peak times: Why do you think they spent the night at the top?
Blocking rear wheel: I'd like to see who rides better on this gravel.

I agree, the video is great!
On the subject of sliding: I know plenty of bikers who can ride this gravel without sliding. The bikers in the video slide on purpose, you can see that from far away. And more and more hiking trails are being closed to bikers because of riders like that. There have already been articles on this topic, not least in ride... Adapting your speed to the terrain, moving the rear wheel, leaving no tracks: this is exactly what makes a good and responsible biker.

Someone should teach these guys that you can ride decently with an unlocked rear wheel. It's embarrassing.

not exactly the best advertisement for us bikers, the riding style in this video :(
i recommend making the descent from the Blüemlisalphütte during the week and either as early or late in the day as possible, as the route is extremely busy with hikers on nice days.

I can only agree with you about the timing of the descent. The Blüemlisalphütte is a popular destination for hikers.
