Schynige Platte
Description
The start of the tour to the Schynigen Platte is in Grindelwald, from where you ride up to Grosse Scheidegg on the road. Turn left here and climb up to the Firstbahn mountain station. Continue to the idyllic Bachsee lake and up a steep alpine path towards the Faulhorn. A little below the historic hotel, turn left onto the Weltlkasse Trail. This rides through a sureal rocky landscape to the Männdlenenhütte. Continue along the trail into the Sägistal valley and then on to the Schynigen Platte. The view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from here is stunning. The upcoming descent via Bigelti and Schwendi to Wilderswil is also top class. This trail is challenging and rough, but almost 1500 meters in altitude. From Wilderswil, you finally roll along Quartiertsträsschen to Interlaken train station.
Note: You should avoid the ride to Schynigen Platte because of the many hikers. This also has to do with the fact that the Männdlenenhütte is run by a landlord who likes to see himself as a law enforcer and has a relatively irascible attitude towards mountain bikers.

A fantastic tour in a magnificent landscape. Technically very challenging.
On Friday, July 18, 1410 by train Wilderswil-Grindelwald. And gondola to First. Departed ~1530. Crossed 2-3 late hikers after Faulhorn.
Schynige Platte/Bigelti to the railroad track and through the tunnel (last train ~1800) (lamp) and immediately left onto the new path (the original, closed path according to gpx has been removed) back onto the original path. Here it gets steep and demands a lot in the hairpin bends.
An extremely beautiful tour in terms of both scenery and trail technique. The trails between Faulhorn and Schynige Platte are challenging, but definitely rideable with the right skills. From Schynige Platte in the direction of Bigelti, the trail is unfortunately closed due to an acute risk of falling. The only alternative is to descend into the Lütschental, e.g. to Aebnit. This is a varied and rather challenging trail through the forest.
Rode it yesterday, a decent bit of work even with the eMTB. But this tour is really special, from the landscape alone. I was made very welcome at the Männdlenenhütte. Unfortunately, the path down from the Schynigen Platte was closed due to the risk of landslides - what a shame. I then had to ride via Schilt to Burlauenen, the other hiking trail was not an option as it was raining quite heavily in the meantime.
I can only recommend this tour, but it should not be underestimated, some sections are clearly S3, but you can also push a bit. Taking the gondola up to the First is not a bad idea, there are enough meters up, especially with the Biobike!
I did this tour in the first shutdown in 2019, but directly from Burglauenen up towards Schynige Platte. So you only push the bike at the top for half an hour. There were only 5 hikers at the time. The descent was difficult because the trail was damp and rocky.
Made the Schynige Platte today, 17.5.2020, but drove up from Burglauenen, Hintisberg - Oberläger. From here 40 minutes pushing, on piste. Finally rideable again to the mountain station. 3 hours. 1380 hm. Hardly anyone out and about due to Corona. The descent was difficult for me in places because it was damp and quite bumpy. But it was still very nice.
We rode the tour on 22.7.19. We saved ourselves the ascent via the Gr. Scheidegg and took the gondola lift directly to First (CHF 10 per bike). In order to avoid as many hikers as possible, we took the first gondola. We pushed most of the way from Bachalpsee to Faulhorn. Then we rode a lot (short sections were blocked) before it was so blocked a few minutes before the Männdlenhütte that we had to push. A local confirmed to us that the landlord at the Männdlenhütte was not a good person to deal with... After the hut, it was again very bumpy in places and barely rideable. Most of the hikers were very friendly, but there were a lot of them before the Schynige Platte, so you couldn't get into the flow... After the Schynige Platte, there were slowly fewer people and only a few very blocked hairpin bends in the forest before you could really let it roll again through the next bends. All in all, a brilliant tour, but it requires a lot of trail tolerance from both sides and thus sacrificing the enjoyment of the full flow in the highly frequented areas.
I did the tour on 30. June 2019. From Bachsee up to Faulhorn bike on the back and walk in the snow. Same story on the other side down to a bit after berghütte manndlenen. Honestly I would try again only starting from August.
We rode the tour on 07.08.2017 and had a lot of fun.
From Bachalpsee to Faulhorn we had to push and carry.
From the Faulhorn to the Schynigen Platte, everything was rideable except for a few gravel fields, but it is true that a lot of the terrain is enormously blocked and you need very good bike control to be able to ride everything.
Moving and standing still on the spot are a must.
The steep, rocky path with high drops to the Männdelenhütte was rideable, but it was quite challenging.
We didn't notice the irascible landlord at the Männdlenenhütte either.
As mentioned, the trail from the Schynigen Platte down to Wilderswil is very rough and requires full concentration at the end.
I would not recommend the tour in wet conditions.
From the Faulhorn we descended directly on the ridge, which is also a cool option.
Tip: plan the tour so that you are on the Faulhorn for lunch at the latest.
We rode this tour recently. The landlord at the Männdlenenhütte wasn't right at all, on the contrary....er even asked us if he should help us carry our bikes over a snow wall. The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
What is not mentioned in this report is that this tour involves a lot of walking. Anyone who rides most or all of the trail between Bachalpsee and Schynigen Platte is not only a crack but a true genius. The trail is either brutally steep or enormously rocky and just before the Männdlenenhütte, a very steep, rocky path with high drops leads downhill.
