Brienzersee-Umrundung
Description
From Interlaken, ride via Bönigen along Lake Brienz in the direction of Iseltwald. Shortly before the village, turn right and climb up a mountain road to Werzisboden. A little above the alp, there is a sensational view of Lakes Brienz and Thun with Interlaken in between. Continue along the road and finally reach the Plangäu Alp through a short tunnel. Here begins the descent through the Bauwald forest to Giessbach, which is quite challenging at times, before continuing on a small road to Bramisegg. Continue on the single trail downhill via Frutt to the upper end of Lake Brienz. The route continues along the lakeshore to Brienz and then back to Interlaken on the other, much more scenic side of the lake. From a mix of forest roads, single trails, climbs and descents, you always ride well above the lake to Ringgenberg. The last few meters lead along a small road via Goldswil to Interlaken train station.
Alternatives: Both on the southern and northern side of the lake, there is the option of taking a much easier route along the lakeshore
Tip: If you run out of energy in Brienz, take the boat back to Interlaken

I did the route yesterday (31.7.2023), best conditions - dry and not hot. It was disappointing for me and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you don't know the Lake Brienz region and want to enjoy the panorama. But I think the https://www.ride.ch/de/touren/eiseesattel-brienzer-rothorn is much better.
Once you reach the Plangäu after the long climb, I was looking forward to the descent. Just as the previous speaker described, I had to push almost everything. Then there are too long sections on forest roads where you lose altitude. I liked the section from 19.7 km the best (you can join the hiking trail here from 19.5 km). The section along the Giessbach was again a barren forest road. I wondered whether I shouldn't have ridden back towards Interlacken at 20.7 km.
The stretch Brienz - Interlaken on the north side was just as disappointing - forest road up and down again. You make a lot of vertical meters and unfortunately the descents (except one) are boring.
Ridden on 26.07.2022: must agree with "roman". From Plangäu it was a very difficult trail at times, especially in wet conditions like I encountered (after a thunderstorm night). I often pushed the bike from Plangäu to "Staatshütte" to spare "man and material". Then briefly on a fort road to get back onto a rather difficult trail towards Giessbach. This requires the utmost attention, as it is steep, slippery and has two or three tricky hairpin bends. Here too, as a relatively experienced biker, I was always a few meters on foot (safety first!). The next time I cycle the route from Brienz towards Interlaken, I'll take it along the lake. The long climbs on normal forest roads were not so rewarding. A short but great trail was the only reward. Beware, two passages in couloirs require the utmost attention again, as the path was washed out and not wide enough for bike and man. One riding mistake and you're 20 meters closer to Lake Brienz ... Conclusion: a very rewarding tour, but with a few tricky sections. I would therefore increase the difficulty level from level two to level four! Otherwise: if you don't do the tour, it's your own fault ;-)
Rode today (end of may), unfortunately from 1500 snow and below everything muddy and trail full of obstacles (branches etc.). Absolutely top scenery!
Very scenic tour, but clearly rated too low with difficulty S2. Attention often S4!
