Bettmerhorn

Bahnentour Aletsch Wallis Aletschgletscher

The Bettmerhorn mountain station is the highest point in the Aletsch Arena that mountain bikers can reach by cable car. The longest descent of the Aletsch Bahnentour, with almost 2000 Elevation loss, starts from here and can also be incorporated into an extremely rewarding enduro tour from Mörel.

Description

Take the cable car from Mörel to Riederalp and then ride your mountain bike to the Moosfluh cable car. The Mossfluh mountain station is a popular vantage point and is often well frequented in summer. A first-class single trail rides east over the wide mountain ridge between the Aletsch Glacier and the Aletsch Arena, which after a few hundred meters turns right into the descent to Bettmeralp. Turn left at Blausee lake, follow the winding trail and reach Bettmersee lake via meadow paths. You reach the Bettmerhorn cable car via a small road, get into the gondola and ride to the highest point of the tour. Once at the top, it's worth making a detour to the viewing platform - the view of the largest glacier in the Alps is even more impressive from up here than from the Moosfluh.

The trail descent starts right at the mountain station of the cable car and shows its wild side at the beginning. Many loose stones and several steep steps require a careful choice of line. At a small lake and shortly before you reach the path previously taken from the Moosfluh, keep left and follow a trail down to Bettmersee. Rolling through the village of Bettmeralp onto the Aletsch promenade, you switch to a trail branching off to the left a short time later. This leads across flat meadows and leads into the first-class descent to Goppisberg. The partly bumpy trail is carefully laid out in the steep terrain and is a lot of fun to ride. The short trail break in the village of Goppisberg comes in handy for many, as the route continues at the usual pace immediately afterwards. The fireworks end in the district of Filet and the starting point of Mörel is just a few hundred meters away.
