The wild Gredetschtal valley lies far above Brig and, in combination with the trail down from Alp Brischeru and the section along the Oberschta-Suonen, is a great tour with an intercity connection.

Description

The tour begins with a typical Valais post bus ride, this time to Mund. This line is less frequented, which makes it easier to transport bikes, but reservations are still recommended. In Mund, you get on the bike yourself and climb the extensive southern slope on a road. As you gain altitude, a breathtaking panorama of the mountain peaks opposite opens up: the Fletschhorn, Dom, Matterhorn and Weisshorn form a spectacular backdrop. The asphalt road eventually turns into a gravel path and becomes much steeper after a car barrier. This is how you reach Alp Brischeru, the highlight in terms of views.

The long descent back to Brig starts at the chapel there. The trail is technically challenging at first with steep steps and tight hairpin bends, but then becomes smoother and faster and leads into a wide high-speed trail. Shortly before the Ewigschmattu, there is one last impressive view of the Matterhorn. Soon afterwards, an illuminated tunnel leads into the Gredetschtal valley, a seemingly different world with steep, rocky sides and far from any civilization. A trail continues down to the Oberschta-Suone, an exposed water pipe trail with small tunnels. For safety reasons, it is necessary to push the bike in some places, especially when passing hikers, and it may be necessary to back up to ensure that you can pass without any problems.

The Suone runs along almost the entire southern slope. After a short section on a road, you reach the lower path that rides down into the valley to Belalp. The path is easy to ride on, but offers challenging S3 passages time and again. Finally, you change direction and follow a trail with some initial "flow brakes" to the start of the well-known mule track that leads down to Naters.
