Lamsenjochhütte - Achensee

Lamsenjochhütte - Achensee

The idyllically situated Lamsenjochhütte on Lake Achensee not only offers great scenic highlights, but is also at its best when it comes to trails.

Description

The route starts in the village of Jenbach in the Inn Valley. From here, you meander along the side road towards Stans on asphalt. In Stans, the uphill becomes more interesting. The toboggan run takes you on a moderate incline towards Eggen. From here, the route continues on asphalt to the Bärenrast parking lot before taking small trail cut-offs and the forest road towards Stallenalm. From the Stallenalm, the uphill becomes very steep and impassable. You get that Dolomite feeling, with the rugged rock formations and bizarre ridges playing their part. At 1953 meters above sea level, the uphill ends for the time being. At the Lamsenjochhütte, you find yourself in the middle of a dreamlike mountain world below the Lamsenspitze, the Hochnissl and the Sonnjoch in view. A stop here is definitely worthwhile. Culinary delights are on the daily menu here.

The day's program also includes the main part of the tour: a fantastic trail descent towards Alpengasthof Gramai. On difficulty levels S2 to S3, the route takes you down hairpin bends and, in the lower section, S1 flow passages to the Alpengasthof Gramai (1263 meters above sea level). Now you surf the Falzthurntal back to Pertisau. Tourism has taken hold in Pertisau am Achensee. Numerous hotels and lidos are a tourist magnet. In the summer months, however, a dip in the cool water is a must on this tour. The route then continues towards Eben am Achensee and then at the church of St. Notburga along the trail alongside the Achensee cable car down to Jenbach. On difficulty levels S1 to S2, the last few Elevation losses are sensibly covered before you return to the starting point.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.

From MTB News:
The access road to the Lamsenjochhütte in the Karwendel is in better shape this year than it has ever been in the past twenty years. A forest highway has been created here by brute force, which means that for the first time in mountain bikers' memory "only" the sometimes enormous steepness, but no longer the rough ground, is an obstacle on the way to the Östliches Lamsenjoch.

However, at the same time as the technical aspects of the route were made easier by the leveling, another obstacle was created, namely a legal one: The landowner of the Stallental valley, through which the forest road leads, forbids any mountain bikers in the exaggerated sense, meaning that you are on private land here - despite the nature park status of the Karwendel - where you are not welcome at all. At least in the northern direction, i.e. from the Inn Valley to the Lamsenjochhütte, this private right is incontestable. From the other direction, however, there is no such legal hurdle, i.e. you can ride and push your bike from the Großer Ahornboden via Binsalm up to the Westliches Lamsenjoch before an officially Tyrolean-approved trail connects the two passes (Westliches and Östliches Lamsenjoch). If you pass the trail, you will find yourself at the Lamsenjochhütte and would actually have ended up in a dead end, as you are not actually allowed to descend any further through the Stallental valley. But what would be the point of the approved connecting trail up there if not to leave the Karwendel to reach the Inn Valley?

According to locals, the Stallental can be crossed, both uphill and downhill. However, you should skip the Stallenalm if at all possible (!) and drive around it on the right-hand side of the stream on rough gravel, i.e. do not enter the wide alpine meadow area, because the aforementioned landowner rules there and does not want to be disturbed for anything in the world - even if he is not present at all, because he is once again circling high above the Karwendel with his friends in a helicopter and studying his hunting ground.

In addition, the descent towards Gramai is the ascent for 1,000,000 hikers per day to the Lamsenjochhütte. The escalator at Kaufhof am Stachus is emptier.

The route does not run over the Stallenalm, but along the topographically left bank.
