Le Morgonnet

If you're looking for Alpine flair with a Caribbean feel, Lac de Serre-Ponçon and the panoramic mountain Le Morgonnet to the north are just right for you. Here you get an interesting and sometimes technical trail descent.

Description

This mountain bike tour starts on the south-eastern bank of the L'Ubaye and La Durance rivers in the north of France. From there, the route rides steadily uphill on asphalt to the Col de Pontis, a popular meeting point for mountain bikers, motorcyclists and racing cyclists. The ascent already offers some sporty encounters and magnificent views before it becomes quieter on gravel on the south side of the summit and you climb up to the Les Baumettes plateau.

At an altitude of 1754 meters above sea level, you reach the summit, which offers impressive panoramic views thanks to its good geographical and topographical location, particularly attractive in autumn and spring when the mountains are still partly covered in snow.

The descent begins on easier trails of difficulty levels S1 and S2 and leads to the picnic arena, from where you meet the gravel road. Here you cross the mountain to the north and then plunge into an exciting descent of difficulty level S3. The route offers breathtaking views of a reservoir and the alpine rock formations of the Maritime Alps.

After a counter-climb on the familiar ascent route, a varied descent begins. Initially on an easy trail of difficulty level S1, which later increases to S2 and S3, the route leads down into the valley with hairpin bends and rock faces. The last section of the tour becomes easier again, allowing a pleasant return to the starting point and completing the tour.
