Reither Spitze – Nördlinger Hütte

Reither Spitze - Nördlinger Hütte

If you prefer alpine mountains with a magnificent mountain panorama and technical trails, the Nördlinger Hütte in combination with the Reither Spitze near Seefeld in Tyrol is the perfect choice.

Description

The tour starts in Reith bei Seefeld and follows the official cycle route along the railroad on gravel in the direction of Seefeld, past the Wildsee lake. At Seefeld, the route then leads to the valley station of the Rosshütte funicular and from here steadily upwards on a forest highway along the lift infrastructure. From the mountain station, the bike is then pushed or carried towards the Reither Scharte. With a view of the Reither Spitze, you make your way to the end of the tour. A few meters before the summit, you come across the key section of the uphill and have to climb a ladder to the Reither Spitze. Afterwards, the route continues in hairpin bends to the highest point of the tour at the summit of the Reither Spitze at 2374 m. The view is breathtaking, especially in autumn, when the mountain formations and peaks seem endless.

The subsequent downhill to the Nördlinger Hütte is between S2 and S3 in the upper section and between S5 in the middle section, whereby particular attention must be paid to riding errors, as slipping would be fatal. From the Nördlinger Hütte, the trail becomes easier and remains at S2 to S3 level. It winds its way through mountain pines to the Schartlehnerhaus in the direction of Oxenleger and continues via Stigl and Lus-Mähder back to the starting point. The descent is varied: in the upper section it is alpine and exposed, in the lower section it rides gently through forests. It is a true paradise for those who can master hairpin bends. The tour ends in Reith bei Seefeld.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.

I did the tour today. To avoid the forest highway, however, I started in Gießenbach and went via the Eppzirler Alm via Breiter Sattel up to the Ursprungattel and from there on to the Nördlinger Hütte. This is a lonely, alpine and scenically very rewarding ascent. There's no ladder here, but you have to use your hands from time to time in quite airy places, especially after the Ursprungattel. It is therefore better to tackle this only with a bike carrying system.

I didn't bother with the summit - S5 isn't really necessary - and rode directly from the Nördlinger Hütte down the very ingenious trail. There is still a lot of gravel at the top, but then it increasingly turns into beautiful forest floor with lots of not too steep and generally quite easy hairpin bends.

From Reith, you can take the train back to the starting point or continue straight on to Innsbruck or Munich. A great public transport tour!

If the train hadn't just arrived when I got to Reith, I would probably have gone further down to Zirl. Looks like there are still a few nice trails on the map. If anyone ever tries this, I would be interested to know if and where it works well.

Adventurous tour with a great descent. On the ascent from the Reither Scharte to the Reither Spitze, surefootedness with the bike on your back is required - otherwise it is better to take the hiking trail down from there, which then also leads to the Nördlinger Hütte.
