The Slatnik near the Slovenian sports resort of Bohinjska Bistrica offers a top-class bike tour thanks to its historic southern fortifications.

Description

The tour starts in the small village of Podbrdo near the river Baca. From here, the route climbs steadily uphill along a military road from the time of the Vallo Alpino to Petrovo Brdo. It then becomes relatively steep and some sections are almost impossible to pedal on a biobike. This changes at the saddle, where the path slowly turns into a singletrail and winds its way towards Slatnik with good views. From an altitude of around 1400 meters above sea level, you are above the tree line and have a magnificent view. The route then follows the military road past an old material ropeway to Ovcarski stan. Another military building.

The downhill then begins in the midst of untouched nature, paired with countless paths and historic buildings such as bunkers. A perfectly laid out military trail leads through beech forests on difficulty levels S1 to S2. A never-ending descent rides up to Vrh Bace. From here, the trail continues but increases in difficulty. S3 passages are to be expected, especially at the beginning. The trail continues below the ridge to the village of Baca pri Podbrdu. For a short time, the route leads along a gravel path and then back to the starting point on difficulty levels S1 and S2.
