Spotguide Rosengarten - Latemar

The Val d'Ega, the main valley in the region with direct access to the Alpine town of Bolzano, lies in the face of the Dolomite giants Latemar and Catinaccio. This exceptionally scenic area is not very high, and on bike tours you are rarely much higher than the tree line. In other words: Great bike tours are possible here early in the season, and the same applies to late fall, when there is already snow in the higher elevations of the Dolomites.

In terms of MTB routes, you won't find the really big freeride adventures here, but an enormously dense network of trails for more moderate trails - and a top infrastructure. Many hotels here now focus on mountain bikers, there are several shuttle cabs and high-quality bike schools. Those who like to be taken up the mountain by cable car on tours can do so in the region with the Carezza cable car in Welschnofen or the Kohlernbahn cable car in Bolzano. Incidentally, this cable car gives the region a special touch by enabling a detour to the beautiful town center of Bolzano and making the return to Val d'Ega much easier.

Getting there

Arrival by public transport

If you are traveling by public transport, we recommend taking the train to Bolzano. The small town lies on the north-south axis and is served from the north by intercity trains from Innsbruck. There is also a train line from Malles/Mals on the Swiss border via Merano/Meran to Bolzano/Bozen. From the main train station, you can then take a hotel or a bike shuttle cab to Val d'Ega/Eggental; surprisingly, the local bus companies still don't have any means of transporting bikes.

Arrival by car

The Rosengarten-Latemar region is easy to reach by private car via the Brenner highway or from Switzerland via the expressway from Meran. From Bolzano, follow the main road through the Val d'Ega, which leads up to the Carezza Pass. The individual small villages are all well developed.
