The Latemar circuit in the trail version with lift support is one of the most interesting tours in the Dolomites! Challenging single trails alternate with flowing forest and meadow paths. And to relax, you can ride along the perfect cycle path in Val di Fassa.

Description

The Val d'Ega: thirty minutes by car above the rooftops of Bolzano, you feel like you've been beamed into another, steep world. The Rosengarten (which, according to legend, was turned into stone by the angry dwarf king Laurin), Schlern (where the "Schlern witches" - and some mountain bikers - do their mischief) and Latemar (the 800-metre-high colossus between Eggental and the Trentino Fassa Valley) rise vertically from lush mountain meadows. The best panoramic views can be enjoyed from the mountain village of Steinegg. This is also an ideal base camp for a few days - or even better: a whole week. So let's get going!

"On the planetary path, leave Mars on the right and pass Jupiter on the left after the bend!" Anyone who thinks this sentence comes from the novel "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is very much mistaken. It is a kind of signpost to the observatory in Gummer. With its white fiberglass dome and 80-centimeter reflecting telescope, it sits enthroned very close to Steinegg. If you like, you can marvel at the firmament on Thursday nights (www.sternendorf.it). Mountain bikers, however, have a habit of being out and about during the day. Never mind! Even from the outside, the planetarium looks great against the backdrop of the Dolomites. And the "planet trail" illustrates the proportions in the solar system. Mountain bikers can turn the "star tour" from Steinegg to South Tyrol's only public observatory into a 25-kilometre circuit. With the exception of two short stretches where you have to push your bike, there are some nice trails and idyllic forest paths - a perfect tour for leisure bikers and families, but also ideal for e-bikes! After a beautiful ride over the panoramic Tschigg (1332 m), you soon pass the observatory. The Unteregger restaurant next door is an excellent place to stop for a bite to eat. The second mandatory stop on the way to Steinegg is the Wiedenhof snack station. Because here they serve biker noodles.
