Latemar-Umrundung Easy

Latemar

A great beginners' and family tour with little elevation gain, but all the more adventure value. Around the Latemar in one day with kids and cones - the lift from Val di Fassa up to the 2121-metre-high Passo Feudo makes it possible. The best rest stop for tired heroes: the stylish Gardonè Alm at the middle station. Here you can eat in lounge chairs under palm trees.

Description

Lake Carezza. The Ladins call it "Lec de ergobando", the rainbow lake. According to legend, a mermaid who once lived in the depths of Lake Carezza is to blame. The sorcerer of Masaré wanted to kidnap her with a nasty plan: He stretched a rainbow of precious stones between Rosengarten and Latemar as a disguised  jewel merchant to lure the mermaid. The trick failed, the mermaid submerged in Lake Carezza and the sorcerer threw the rainbow pieces into the lake. This is why it shimmers in the most magnificent colors today. Anyone who passes Lake Carezza on their long but never boring walk around the Latemar knows why it is called "Lec de ergobando", Lake of the Rainbow.

The best starting point for this beginner's and family circuit is the mountain village of Obereggen (1512 m) in the uppermost Eggental valley. Cycle through the Latemar forest, one of the most beautiful spruce forests in Europe, and past the Rainbow Lake to the Karer Pass (1745 m) before cruising down to Val di Fassa on the other side. The paved cycle path takes you to the cable car in Predazzo in half an hour. This collects 1100 meters of altitude in another quarter of an hour. You then reach the high point of a long day's touring at Passo Feudo (2121 m) and can hardly get enough of the panoramic view: To the west, the mountain villages of Deutsch- and Welschnofen, Obereggen and Steinegg scattered across flower meadows - crowned by the unequal mountain twins Schwarzhorn and Weisshorn. And to the east, the Dolomites scrape the horizon. But the final descent awaits! There are several ways to close the circle back to the Val d'Ega: the best way is via trail no. 9 or the toboggan run. Marathon riders who find the clockwise Latemar loop too bland can ride it in an anti-clockwise direction. The loop then turns from gentle to tough without any gnarling.  And if you're looking for downhill fun, try the Carezza bike trail on the Frommer Alm. The motto here: Let's flow!
