Nigerpass - Tiers

Nigerpass

This varied bike tour entices with crisp singletrail descents and tight hairpin bends. As an encore, there are first-class panoramic views of the Catinaccio and Latemar -&nbspand fine South Tyrolean mountain huts along the way. Very variable: the tricky trails from the Niger Pass down to St. Cyprian are easy to avoid. And for the final 600 vertical meters back to Steinegg, there is a shuttle if necessary...

Description

Dwarf kings, mermaids, stone dolls: the Dolomites around Schlern, Rosengarten and Latemar are truly legendary! But the tours here in the south-eastern corner of South Tyrol that ride right into the realm of legends are also legendary. The best example is the long tour around the Eggental valley. Up here around the Niger Pass, on the sunny balcony of the South Tyrolean Alpine metropolis of Bolzano, you can get into the saddle earlier in the year than anywhere else. The wooded hills of the Val d'Ega and the gentle peak of the Niger Pass welcome bikers even late into the golden October. The mega tour starts in Steinegg (916 m). Only briefly on asphalt, but soon on beautiful forest paths, the tour rides past Gasthof Lärchenwald and then on trail no. 1 via Schillerhof - with a worthwhile detour for a snack to the beautiful Hagneralm - to the Niger Pass (1688 m). 30 meters after the top of the pass, follow trail no. 1A and follow a narrow and difficult trail (mostly S2 with some S3 sections) down to St. Zyprian (1073 m). After a short stop in the mini-village, head towards Patissenhof (trail no. 6, later 6U) and Gasthof Schönblick (1193 m). This inn attracts visitors with its wonderful views and excellent cuisine. A short descent on an asphalt road, then a left-hand bend to the right downhill on meadow path no. 10. Ride through the village of Ums and continue on asphalt to Völs. Here you ride down into the Eisack valley at a brisk pace (S0) on the 1er path. At the end of the long day, you roll along the cycle path to Blumau (316 m) and cycle up the narrow road to Steinegg. If you don't want to (or can't) continue down here in the Isarco Valley, take the bus or hotel shuttle - and save yourself 600 meters in altitude.
