Latemar-Umrundung Enduro
Description
Circling an entire mountain range is - after a transalpine tour perhaps - the most fascinating kind of touring biking. And if you only need one (long) day to complete the whole tour, you'll be even happier! Like on the Latemar, high above the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano and at the western entrance to the Dolomites. By bike, you can experience the rugged mini-mountains from all sides, at all times of day and in all light conditions. This is made possible by two lifts that carry bikers and bikes: the cable car from Welschnofen to Frommeralm and the one from Predazzo to Passo Feudo. If you're already in Val di Fassa, it's best to take the lift to Passo di Lusia as well. The exciting descent definitely justifies this detour. The safari starts directly at the Welschnofen cable car (1173 m). In just a few minutes, man and machine gondola up to the summit station and the Frommeralm. The start here is very gentle, the paths to the Carezza Pass (1745 m) are scenic but not difficult. At the grand hotels at the top of the pass, follow the main road briefly and then ride along paths 520 and 571 down to Soraga. Continue along the cycle path to the valley station of the Lusia cable car and take the lift up to the Le Cune mountain station (2020 m). After trail no. 614, a short but undemanding carrying passage to Sforzèla de Pozil (2144 m) awaits - and an exciting singletrail descent on trail no. 622 to Moena. The beautiful valley cycle path rides to the Predazzo cable car. Once at the top of the Feudo Pass (2121 m), bikers have several options. The best option is to ride from the top of the pass to the Ganischger Alm, continue along an alpine path to the Epircher-Laner Alm and via paths no. 10 and 11 to Obereggen. From here, take trail no. 8 to Lake Carezza and then trail no. 10A and trail no. 7 back to Nova Levante/Welschnofen. At the end of the day's tour, you will have covered an easy 800 meters in altitude compared to 3100 Elevation loss. A fabulous price-performance ratio!

After riding the tour yesterday, here's a brief summary. We enjoyed the tour, but I have a few points of criticism. It would be good to mention that you need an extra ticket for the Valbone gondola, as the ticket for the tour around the Latemar is not valid here. However, the upper trail after this lift was a highlight and therefore well worth the money. In general, the trails were easy to ride on the bike, but the number of them was very limited. You ride a lot of forest and asphalt roads downhill, which makes the whole thing a bit tough. The last section just before welschenhofen is also closed to mountain bikers and we almost couldn't find our way out of the forest.
Today I rode the tour.
Fantastic panorama, crisp trails and relaxing transfer passages on forest paths and asphalt in between.
All in all, a successful tour.
Great tour, it's worth looking for various alternatives to the pass road sections. At the end we took the Tschein chairlift up and rode the Carazzatrail (not a highlight, but nice). Ticket cost Aug'23: 45€
South Tyrol is an ingenious place for biking, wherever you are, wonderful climbs and then single trails with a fantastic panorama!
