Cap de Creus

Cadaques (Cap da Creus)

The Cap de Creus region is located in the far north of Catalonia, not far from the French border. This charming region also offers numerous single trails for experienced riders.

Description

The starting point for this route is El Port de la Selva, though the tour can just as easily be started from the picturesque town of Cadaqués. The route begins with a long climb up a gravel road that leads to the ridge above Roses. Once you reach the end of the gravel road, a trail branches off to the left and continues along the ridge. Rated S1 for difficulty, you can ride here at a relaxed pace parallel to the mountain road, which lies slightly below. Further along, the narrow trail transitions back into a gravel road, which you follow for a considerable distance. This is followed by a short section on asphalt before turning left onto a gravel road. Shortly thereafter, this turns into a fast-paced single-track descent. This trail leads back to the mountain road, which you follow to Coll de Perafita. From this point, the route gains elevation again and leads up to Puig dels Bufador, which is easily recognizable by its distinctive transmission antenna. From the summit, you can see almost the entire descent down to Cadaqués. The upper section is quite steep, while the trail further down leads through numerous stone slabs at the challenging S3 difficulty level all the way to the town. The charming town of Cadaqués offers the perfect opportunity for a break before the route leads back toward Puig dels Bufador via a narrow road through Coll de Perafita. The first section of the descent follows the familiar route, but at the lower mountain pass, you keep left this time. A technically demanding, varied, and exciting S3-rated trail winds through the charming terrain. Further down, you reach an almost flat section, which you follow to the left. This leads over a considerable stretch rated S1, interrupted by a short S3-rated passage, up to an alp. Here, the route joins a gravel road, which climbs moderately up to the ridge high above El Port de la Selva. As the grand finale, the fun but thoroughly rugged S3 trail begins here, leading directly down to the valley floor not far from El Port de la Selva.

We were in Cadaqués on November 25—it’s an amazing place for biking, and it was perfect. We did almost the same route, but starting from Cadaqués.
