Collserola Classic Trails

Collserola (Barcelona)

The Tibidabo leisure park is located high above Barcelona. For mountain bikers, however, the amusement park is the terrain around the Collserola hill range, which is criss-crossed with trails. This route is a classic combination and a good introduction to the Barcelona trails.

Description

The starting point of the tour is the district of Sarria at the foot of Collserola. From here, a funicular railroad rides up to the ridge, which makes the ascent 158 meters easier. A maximum of two bikes are transported per ride. However, the ascent can also be made on the road under your own steam. At the Vallvidrera Superior mountain station, continue on the mountain road along the ridge and past the large transmission antenna. The view of the city of Barcelona from here is outstanding! You pass the Tibidabo leisure park on the north side and head into the first descent. This takes you along a fast trail that repeatedly features tricky, rocky sections. You descend in this racy manner until you reach a gravel road, which then forms the basis for the next ascent. You pass the Coll del Gravat and climb a little further up until a trail branches off to the left. This winds its way through the undergrowth until you turn into a much busier trail descent and roll down to the road. There are a few meters of asphalt before the long trail rides northwards over the ridge. Quick and easy at first, the trail becomes increasingly sharp and even has a few key sections that require a safe line choice. This is how it descends to the valley floor of the Riera de Sant Medir.

Phase 2 of the tour is on the agenda: the return journey to Barcelona. To do this, follow the gravel road uphill until just after Sant Medir. It is now possible to ascend on a (steep) asphalt road or take the trail on the left, which zigzags upwards. Incidentally, the trail version is much more pleasant than the steep asphalt ramp. The trail finally leads to an asphalt road, which means you have reached the ridge. Another section of asphalt ascent is the order of the day until below the leisure park. The screeching of the rollercoaster is replaced here by the squealing of the disc brakes. A great and varied path leads through the dry forest. With an intermediate section on a gravel road, you finally roll down a kind of trail rollercoaster to the first houses in Barcelona. Conclusion: All in all, a great singletrail tour that gives a good and quick insight into trail life in Barcelona.

A really nice introduction to this exciting biking region. Great trails and beautiful climbs. It is striking how sporty the people here are: many Gümel residents, bikers, joggers and hikers can also be found during the week.
