Fronalp
Description
From Glarus, follow the official mountain biking route (302) up to the Ennetberg. After a long stretch through the Ennetberg meadowlands, ride straight ahead onto the single track at the first left serpentine. The track is challenging until it becomes a lane leading up to the Mullerenberg. Follow this lane past the town of Mullern and finally up to Alp Mittler Stafel directly below the foot of the Fronalpstock. This is the highest point of the tour and the beginning of the descent to Glarus. The trail to the ski lodge is steep and is not recommended for beginners. Afterwards, there is a stretch of gravel pathway until the marked hiking path leads to another single track that crosses the uphill route and leads past Helgehüsli to Ennenda. The entire descent is challenging; it is recommended that less-skilled bikers take the official route from Ruestel. This route leads downhill until rejoining the ascent route, which leads back to Glarus.

I rode the trail on my e-mountain bike today (July 25, 2026). It was a nice ride except for the final stretch, which is just a gravel road leading downhill. The descent on Trail 1595 is much better.
I completed the tour in July 2025. Beautiful tour with great trails. The tour can be extended to the Fronalp Pass and from there on foot to the Fronalpstock. The ascent from the Mittler Stafel Alp to the Fronalp Pass is quite strenuous due to the very loose ground, but is definitely worth it for the panorama on the Fronalpstock!
