Frux-Trail (Rab)

The Croatian island of Rab is better known among beach vacationers. In the north of the island, however, there is a short and varied MTB route via the Frux Trail.

Description

The tour starts in the northern part of the island of Rab at Donja Supertarska Draga. The small harbor town with its wetland biotope at the back is an ideal starting point. From here, the route climbs up to the plateau towards Crkvina on a medium to moderate gradient on paved and partly loose ground. The short climb of around 150 meters in altitude is quickly mastered and leads directly to the start of the Frux Trail.

The historic path runs along an impressive dry stone wall and offers a seemingly endless descent to Lopar. The constant gradient, the homogeneous ground and the sparse vegetation open up a spectacular panorama to the north and to the prison island of Goli Otok. After reaching the bay and the harbor, the path behind the campsite leads strenuously and steeply uphill. Passing Stanišće, you circle the entire mountain and return to the start of the Frux Trail via the hinterland.

From there, the route continues south past the Vela Straža hill on another historic trail with a similar character. The descent is in the same style as the first section, between S1 and occasionally S2, and leads back into the urban area. Just before the transition to the asphalt or service road, particular caution is required as some of the transverse structures of the watercourse have been washed out. Afterwards, you can enjoy a relaxed ride back to the starting point of the tour.

Note: This route is not necessarily recommended in the summer months. If you do ride it, you should start early in the morning as the temperatures can get extremely high during the day.
