Kamenjak

The southern part of Rab is characterized by the Kamenjak hill, which offers a gigantic view of the Mediterranean and a technical, challenging trail descent.

Description

The all-mountain tour starts in the charming harbor town of Rab on the island of Rab and offers a fascinating mix of asphalt and gravel paths right from the start. The route rides past the Kamenjak restaurant to the summit, with challenging climbs throughout. The strenuous uphill ends after around 400 meters in altitude.

Although Kamenjak is visually impaired by the presence of a transmitter mast, a short detour to the north reveals a breathtaking view to visitors. The steep banks and the surrounding islands, including Goli Otok, the former prison island, as well as the Velebit National Park on the mainland, offer spectacular panoramas.

The trail descent begins near the transmitter masts and can be tackled with difficulties between S2 and S3. The nature of the loose karst rock increases the challenge and makes the descent technically demanding. After reaching the lower part of Kamenjak, the trail rides back into urban areas. The return trip to the starting point is on a mix of side roads and paved paths, allowing you to roll back into the starting point of Rab in a relaxed manner.

It is important to note that this tour is mainly recommended in spring and fall. In summer, dense vegetation and extremely high temperatures can make the tour unpleasant.
