Mont Froid

Mont Cenis

Mont Froid is located between Mont Cenis and the Maurienne region. The route offers a great and long singletrail descent against a magnificent natural backdrop.

Description

The start of the tour begins with the ascent from the village of Val Cenis up to the Col du Mont Cenis. In the summer months, you first use the two chairlifts and then traverse over to the Col du Mont Cenis on a gravel road. Outside the operating hours of the cable cars, the ascent is on the road to Lanslebourg and from there on the pass road to the top of the pass.

After a short section of asphalt descent, the particularly charming section begins on a narrow road along the Lac du Mont Cenis. The lake is wonderfully embedded in the wild, barren mountain landscape between the Maurienne and the Val di Susa. The asphalt road climbs slightly and winds its way across a plateau before turning right onto a gravel road. This eventually turns into a single trail that is easy to ride. Without a motor, the climb requires some strong pedaling, but with an e-mountainbike it is no problem. You reach the Col de Sollières and have Mont Froid right in front of you.

The ascent to the summit follows a well-developed trail that can be ridden almost all the way on an e-mountainbike, apart from a few tight bends. Without a motor, you push your mountain bike the last 100 meters or so up to the summit.

The summit offers an impressive panorama over the entire Maurienne region and the Vanoise National Park and is also the starting point of a long singletrail descent down to the valley floor of Val Cenis. The first section of the ascent route is particularly flowy and great fun. The terrain then becomes somewhat rougher, but always remains easy to ride. Finally, you reach a traverse that leads slightly uphill over a ridge. This section is again more flowy and extremely varied.

The highlight of the tour follows after Alp Le Jeu: a seemingly endless trail marked as a mountain bike route leads through the forest, sometimes flat and flowing, then steeper and interspersed with roots. This trail is a worthy conclusion to the tour, before you end up rolling comfortably along small roads along the valley floor back to Val Cenis.
