On the north side of Monte Argentario, there are numerous single trails, some of which are quite challenging. The combination of these results in a rewarding trail tour with three descents, whereby the asphalt road is usually used for the ascents.

Description

From Orbetello, ride over the dam of the lagoon and then follow the cycle path north around Monte Argentario for a while. After a good three kilometers, keep left and tackle the pleasant ascent on the road to Monte Argentario. Passing an old monastery, you reach Poggio Tondo, from where you start the first descent on the left. The descent is steep and stony, and you need to ride carefully, especially in wet conditions. While the second part of the descent is of the tamer variety, the third part picks up again and spits you out again on a forest road. After passing the monastery, you ride uphill on the road to the signalized trail "Noviziato". This is where the fun begins, even if the descent is not too long. You reach the road again and take it to the highest point of the tour at Poggio Tondo. The descent is wild again, but the second part of the final descent is more of the flowing variety. You then keep to the right to gain a few more meters in altitude. A flowing trail takes you to a residential area and over the dam back to Orbetello

Note: A cloud often hangs around the Monte Argentario ridge, especially in spring. Many stones are then slippery and the ground barely dries in places. In addition, the view is usually very limited.
