Morro del Cortijo
Description
We start in the provincial town of Antigua with the asphalt ascent up to Morro Velosa. The dominant building is already clearly visible from below and promises a great panorama. And so it is. The summit is 400 meters above the large, wide plain and is a popular viewpoint (especially as you can ride right up to the top by car). For us, this is the start of the trail section over the ridge towards the transmitter antennas. It is a constant up-and-down, rideable but exhausting. You pass the refuge at Degollada de Marrubio, which you pass again later on the way back to Antigua. We stay on the ridge and reach the Morro del Cortijo next. Now we descend into the valley of Betancuria. First we take a gravel road through a forest - the only forest on the whole island! A great, flowing single trail then begins at a parking lot. This later leads to a gravel road that joins the main road. Follow this road uphill to the tourist hotspot of Betancuria. The town is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.
For us, Betancuria is a good opportunity to stop for a bite to eat before tackling the steep gravel road ascent to Morro de Tegetuno. The pass is the starting point of the great singletrail descent down to Antigua. The S1 trail is quite wide and allows for different routes. It is the end of a surprisingly green and overgrown area in the middle of the dry island of Fuerteventura.
