Niderhorn – Seebergsee

Seebergseen (Zweisimmen)

The Niderhorn near Zweisimmen is one of the few opportunities to experience the summit by bike. The round tour impresses with the speedy panorama on the summit and the even faster singletrail descent past the Seebergsee lake to Zweisimmen.

Description

From Zweisimmen, the route initially follows the Simme out of the valley until you reach the village of Boltigen after ten kilometers. This is the end of the leisurely ride, as the route climbs up a small road to Alp Hinters Niderhore. A good 1000 meters in altitude have been covered by then, as the final section up to the summit region begins. A cart path finally leads to the broad summit area, although you should not miss the detour to the summit on foot.

For the descent, you continue along the ridge, a short section of ascent has to be mastered at the Seebergsee lake, and after the Stiereberg you also have to pedal up a bit. But then it's pure downhill fun. Instead, you always follow the ridge on a direct route to Blankenburg. The descent leads almost exclusively on easy and flowing trails to the valley floor not far from Zweisimmen.

I rode the route yesterday (August 14, 2026). Overall, it’s mostly a loop of paved and dirt roads with 3 to 4 short but steep and challenging uphill and downhill sections. Not for people who can’t or don’t want to ride steep downhill sections, and the conditions should be dry, as they are now. You can ride up to the summit (on an e-bike). Scenically, it’s certainly a beautiful ride, but there isn’t enough trail (except for the final stretch in the forest, where the route is a bit more challenging).

I rode the tour today. It was a really wonderful experience overall. Be sure to take the short walk to the summit, and don't forget to pack your swimsuit for Seebergsee.

Rode Toiur on 20.09.25 in top conditions. The first ascent on asphalt is easy to ride and you already make a lot of climbing. After a short descent, there is another steep section where you have to push before you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Seebergsee. The descent is short and crisp. Up to the Stierenalp it goes up again a little until the final exit to the Gubi comes..because you will feel it. Then follows the descent, which is a bit bumpy at the beginning and goes briefly over a gravel path. After that, however, there are great sections that ride over meadows with steep passages and finally over rooty forest trails littered with stones. A strenuous tour that stretches out, with great scenery and, in my opinion, fun trails. Would do the tour again

We rode the tour today. The climb was tough and endless after yesterday's tours. We made a detour to the Niederhoren. After the first short descent, it's very steep again up to Obergestehle (some pushing). From here you have a very nice view of the Seebergsee.
The descent is short and crisp - you can take a rest or go for a swim at the lake. We then continued on to Stierenalp, where we had a delicious lunch and a power nap in a deckchair.
Then it's very steep again (rideable) up to Gubi. From here, a beautiful singletrail leads down to Hinder Chumi. A little disappointed, we had to lose a few meters in altitude on the gravel road. But then it finally arrived: a beautiful meadow trail that you could really ride down. It then turns into a beautiful single trail in the forest that rides down into the valley. The tour is worth it!

Can you ride them with an E-MTB?

Yes, it can also be ridden with an E-MTB without any problems, but is not recommended for complete beginners!

One word: Wonderful! A must ride if you're touring in the area!

Wonderful tour, I rode it yesterday and needed a good 3 hours (pure riding time). The first 1000 meters in altitude can be done relatively comfortably thanks to the asphalt road. The ramp up to the Gubi then hurts extra. This may also be because I was really looking forward to the descent. The reward is outstanding, a grandiose descent down to Blankenburg, with a few exceptions very smooth to ride, at the top a lot on surprisingly pothole-free meadows, then down in the forest on a magnificent trail.

We rode the tour today. Super nice and recommended. The ascent is a bit long, but pleasant thanks to the asphalt road. The Seebergsee is very beautiful, some people were swimming. The descent to Zweisimmen is easy, on beautiful flowing trails through mountain meadows and forest.
