Schienerberg | Ride MTB

Schienerberg

The Schienerberg is wedged between the lower arms of Lake Constance and has an extremely attractive border trail, the 1839 Trail.

Description

From Stein am Rhein, the route first leads along the cycle path to Wangen. You climb up to the ridge on a single trail and along forest roads until shortly before Langenmoos on the Schienerberg. The first-class border trail begins here at the edge of the forest, always following the border markings from 1839. It always rides above the steeply sloping northern side of the Schienerberg. You pass the Schrotzburg ruins and follow the path to the Chroobach hut. Now keep left and head downhill to Hemishofen. Follow the cycle path back to picturesque Stein am Rhein.

I rode the tour again today, but instead of going back to Stein am Rhein at the end, I went straight to Etzwilen station. Simply a highlight in the region. Wonderful single trails, cool downhill, lots of variety and views towards the lake and Singen. The following tips:
For a quick journey from Stein am Rhein to Wangen along Lake Constance, well-pumped tires are worthwhile. As a rule, you can ride well on hard tires up to the start of the single trail section in the large clearing at the top of the mountain, but sometimes the last kilometer is a bit muddy.
-The short single trail entrance in Wangen along the stream is difficult to find (I didn't find it today). Alternative: Simply follow the road from the bottom of the lake in the direction of the tracks. After about 500 meters, turn right onto a gravel area. There is a green hut with a bicycle stand in front of it. The zigzag path up the hill begins directly opposite (often hidden behind leaves).

An addendum from my side: From the second half of June, I would ride with long pants and possibly a long top. The vegetation along the border path is very dense, including lots of brambles. On 13.6. the thorns were still very small, but that should change soon.

Great trail, extension as recommended above at the bike park or near Stein am Rhein via the sandstone cave trail highly recommended.

A very beautiful tour that rides mostly through the forest. The tour has a high proportion of single trails and the Grenzweg is really wonderful to ride. We combined the tour at the top of the Schienerberg with further descents at the Schienerberg Bikepark. The guys have really put something good together. Take a look at the homepage https://www.bikeparkschienerberg.de/
After we got back to Stein am Rhein, we did an additional loop over the Wolkenstein. You wouldn't believe it from below, but you have a very nice view. You can find the trail via Trailforks (Wolkenstein ruins).
I would do the tour again.

I rode part of the tour on September 1st. We started from Ramsen, joined the trail at Langenmoos and then back via Chroobachhütte to Ramsen. The relatively easy trail, mostly over rooty terrain, was great fun.
