Albstadt – Zollernalb

Schloss Hohenzollern

Hohenzollern Castle is world-famous. Just south of it lies Albstadt and a whole host of trails around it, which are combined on this route.

Description

The tour starts with an ascent to the Schloßberg. It is best to plan this excursion for a weekend to take advantage of the ski lift, which is in operation especially for mountain bikers. For those who feel like it, additional descents can be included on the specially created routes. The route then takes in a mix of trails, small roads and cycle paths around Albstadt airfield and continues north on a longer transfer section.

The real trail fun begins at Onstmettingen. You whizz along a flowing ridge path from Himberg through the forest, add a trail descent on the north side to the program and finally climb the Zeller Horn from the north, which offers a magnificent view of Hohenzollern Castle opposite. The ascent to the Horn is via an S2 single trail and requires pushing the bike. Alternatively, the Zeller Horn can be bypassed and climbed from the south.

From the Zeller Horn, the return journey begins, mainly along ridge trails. You pass the Heiligenkopf and finally reach Onstmettingen. A gravel transfer section takes you to Burgfelden before you ride onto the next trails over the Heersberg, which descend in serpentines to Margrethausen. A final climb finally takes you up to the plateau and through the "Bullentäle" World Cup area back to Tailfingen.

Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
