Bünztal

The loop around the upper Bünz Valley is a wonderful mountain bike route. The return trip from Horben Castle to Wohlen features many single-track sections.

Description

From Wohlen, the route initially follows marked hiking trails and eventually runs along the railroad tracks to Cholmoos. A short section of singletrack leads almost all the way to Bremgarten, but before reaching it, you turn right and follow forest paths and country roads to the village of Besenbüren. Finally, you pass through Oberdorf near Althäusern and reach the outskirts of Muri. The route continues south toward Benzenschwil and includes some wonderful single-track sections here.

The route continues to Wallenschwil and Beinwil, from where the return trip over the Lindenberg begins. The climb leads to Horben Castle and from there northward through the woods. Scattered single-track sections reappear until, above Buttwil, a beautiful descent along a mix of trails and forest paths leads all the way to Boswil. You then ride back to Wohlen parallel to the railroad tracks.

The trails are cleverly bypassed with the route...

Additional info: When I downloaded the tour data, the tour was exactly the opposite of the description on my navigation system. I then turned the tour around (destination is starting point) and rode the tour as described in the description.

Ridden in December 2020. Varied, not too difficult route (ours was muddy, i.e. a little more difficult) with beautiful views. In some places I also recommend having your eyes - or the sat nav with a map - for trails that are practically next to the route and riding them. It's worth it. Certain sections of the route are probably very busy with hikers at weekends. But I would love to ride them in summer when it's dry.
